Maxine S. White

Maxine S. White, daughter of Earl Stricklin and Cleavis Wood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Williamsburg, Virginia. She will be greatly missed by her only son, Eugene Richard White and wife, Shawn Ann White. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Eugene Ray White.
She is also survived by her granddaughter Rachel Ann Tholix and her husband Erik Torben Tholix of Stockholm, Sweden; her grandson Jonathan Richard White, his wife Lisa Catherine White, her great-grandson David Richard White, and her great-granddaughter Catherine Evelyn White of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; her granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth White of Boulder, Colorado; her grandson Christopher John Devlin and his wife, Zana Këpuska Devlin of Raleigh, North Carolina; and her daughter-in-law Pamela Jean Moran-Christner and her husband Freeman Levi Christner. She will be missed by many more family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Maxine was born in Clendenin, West Virginia on October 23, 1924, and graduated from Clendenin High School. After graduation, she began her lifelong employment with the Chesapeake and Potomac (C&P) Telephone Company of West Virginia (now Verizon).
On October 5, 1945, she married the man of her dreams, Eugene Ray White.
She and Dad eventually moved to the White family farm on Elk River in Procious, West Virginia. From there she crossed the river every workday through rain, snow, ice, and floods to go to work in Charleston. Both her son and the grandchildren have wonderful memories living there. She and Grandpa White would take time every summer and make Elk River the perfect summer vacation for the grandchildren. After leaving the farm, they moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, to be near their son and met and made a whole new set of friends.
All of her friends and family knew her as the kindest, most generous person who always had an encouraging word and saw the best in others. She was a dear friend, Mom, Grandma, sister, and aunt, etc., to so many. She had a heart of gold . . . not a malicious bone in her body . . . couldn't keep a secret if her life depended on it, but yet people would tell her anything and everything. She was always positive and encouraging and could be counted on to find the most elusive of silver linings in the bleakest of situations. She loved unconditionally, there was no limit to her understanding, and she was always supportive. In one sense, the world is a little dimmer now that she's gone, but at the same time the heavens are a bit brighter.
Mom/Grandma/Maxine, you are sorely missed but you live on in our hearts and memories. We are sure you are with Dad and he is really happy to see you!
At her request, no memorial service will be held. A private graveside service for her and husband, Eugene, will be conducted at the White Family Cemetery in Procious, West Virginia. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, a charitable donation be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 North Summit St., P.O. Box 10036, Toledo, OH 42699-0086, c/o Maxine White. The staff of Heartland Hospice in Williamsburg provided exemplary care, support, and comfort to Maxine and the family before she passed.
