Terence Burrell Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Terence G. "Tee" Burrell was born July 23, 1957, in Williamsburg, Virginia. He went to his Heavenly home on Monday, September 11, 2017. As a teenager, Terence confessed Christ as his Personal Savior and joined First Baptist Church. He was a member until his death, serving as an Usher and on other ministries as needed. He began his education at the Wee Wisdom Kindergarten in Braxton Court and then attended York County Public Schools, graduating from York High in 1975. While at York, he lettered in baseball and football and played trumpet in the concert and jazz bands. He enjoyed playing the trumpet for the rest of his life. Though he was recruited by several colleges for football and baseball, Tee chose to accept a scholarship to play football at the University of North Carolina. While there the team played in the Liberty and Peach Bowls and won the ACC Championship. He received an MVP award one year and is remembered as the player who recruited Lawrence Taylor to play for the Tar Heels. He graduated from UNC in 1979 with a BS Degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Terence worked as the manager of Williamsburg Nautilus, as a recruiter for the College of William & Mary, in Human Resources at Colonial Williamsburg and eventually found his calling working in physical therapy. His knees, damaged from years of football, finally forced him to retire in 2010. Terence is survived by his parents, Gertrude and Guy Brown; his wife, Suzanne Spiri; his step-sisters, Tanya and Deadrea Brown; his uncles, Leonard "Bubba" Burrell and Reginald Brown; his aunts, Deloris, Vivian, Bernadine, Aljourna and Deloris Crump; several cousins, including Paulette Green; sisters-in-law, Pam Ayres, Mary Helen Spiri and Christine Spiri; brother-in-law, Drew Spiri; nephews, Connor and Ben Spiri and his niece, Hannah Spiri. He is also survived by his Carolina family, his Williamsburg homeboys, and many, many friends. Tee had a remarkable voice, a beautiful laugh, and an infectious smile. He will be in our hearts forever. A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday (today), September 16, 2017 in First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Dearest Suzanne:

We were so sorry to read that you had lost your great love. As a colleague in HR at Colonial Williamsburg, you could not have asked for a nicer, more professional gentleman. And that laugh...I will always remember that.

May God bless you with His peace and beautiful memories to help ease your pain.

Words can't express the saddest I feel in learning that my friend has passed. Tee made The College of William and Mary the BEST experience for me!!! The fun, laughing, hanging out and that infectious laugh was all it took to turn a down day into the best day ever!!! I have to imagine he is in heaven with all the greats...sitting right there smiling and looking down on us! To the family, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless....

Bless you Terence Tee Baby. Thanks for your friendship, love and making me apart of your family when I first got to the city of Williamsburg. I love your mother and your uncle Bubba at thanksgiving dinners. I know we grow apart but we couldn't separate true heart filled love. My God hold you in his hands, comfort your family and comfort me because I'm in shock. Love you always brother.

Another wonderful man transitioned. Even though I have not seen him since High School, I remember Terence ( Tee) well. He was always a very nice and gentle man and a very popular foot ball player. My heartfelt condolences go out to your family.

God looked around his garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew that you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered Peace be thine.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
