William Randolph Obituary

William Lewis (Lew) Randolph, age 81, passed away on July 7, 2022, with his wife and family by his side. A longtime resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, known to his wife Sigrid as Lewis and all others as Lew, he was a kind and generous person who lived a full life enjoying travel, sailing, nature, tennis, and being with loved ones. Lew grew up in New Orleans near Audubon Park, later attending Tulane University before joining the Navy. He had a long and highly decorated career in the US Navy as a pilot, serving three tours in Vietnam, retiring at the rank of Commander after leading a squadron responsible for training pilots. In his second career, Lew completed his Master's and PhD in Finance and became a Norfolk State University professor. Lew is survived by his wife Sigrid of the last 30 years, his daughters Katherine (Kay) and Frances; his brothers Thomas and Michael and their families; his grandchildren Aaron, Sarah, Nicole, Henry, Maddison, and Vann; and his wife's daughters Marion, Kimberly, and Pamela and their families. Lew is proceeded in death by his son Joseph (Joe). Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, date pending. We ask that if anyone is so inclined, they donate to or participate in their local Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Roll Wave and Go Navy! Thank you for your service. Although I didn't know you, your life seems to have been mine in reverse. I grew up as the daughter of a Naval aviator, lived in Norfolk/Va Beach as a youngster while Dad was stationed there, then in Williamsburg while attending William and Mary, and after graduation, I moved to New Orleans to begin a PhD program at Tulane University. I have lived here ever since, working as the University Archivist at Tulane, right across from Audubon Park. I lost my father five years ago. He's buried in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, where he and my mother met and married while he was in flight school. The Blue Angels just happened to be training the day that he was laid to rest so their flyovers were a God-given sign to us. I hope that your family is similarly comforted in this sad time.
