Arrangements were entrusted to the Nodaway Valley Funeral Home of Clarinda. Steven Douglas Cabbage, son of Thaine Mason Cabbage and LaDonna Mae (Pratt) Cabbage, was born June 1, 1958, Clarinda, Iowa. Steve was educated in the New Market Community School and graduated with the class of 1976. He then furthered his education attending Iowa Western, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Engineering. In 1980, Steve married Risa Reese. They were blessed with two sons Jason and Brett. They later divorced. On October 30, 1991, Steve made the courageous decision to start his journey to sobriety. He was very active within the AA community, sponsoring many individuals throughout his journey. Through his path to sobriety, Steve met Renay Dumont and on September 4, 1993, they were united in marriage. Steve and Renay completed their family with the birth of their daughter Madison. In the beginning of Steve's working years, he worked alongside his father at the Clarinda Elevator then in June of 1985, went to work with the Elevator in Essex, Ag Com, Inc., trading commodities and managing the trucking operation. Steve also had a partnership in Cabbage Brothers Inc. where he and his brother Rick hauled grain and feed to local farms. They sold the trucks but still have an active cattle operation. Steve had a special fondness for cows. Whether tending to them on his farm or simply admiring their beauty. He found solace and joy in their gentle presence. With Steve's God given leadership abilities, he was instrumental in the growth of Keane Thummel Trucking, Inc. Keane and Steve grew their friendship and the business together, making the operation a successful interstate trucking company. Most recently, Steve was working as the Vice President and Manager of Operations. Steve had the pleasure of mentoring Keane's sons Nick and Mac and most recently his son Brett. Steve was a man of deep faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ was central to his life. He was a member of the New Beginnings Church in Shenandoah and was a part of the Prayer Team as well as the adult Sunday School teacher. Steve was very active and proud of the New Market community. Year after year, Steve eagerly participated in the festivities, spreading joy with his infectious laughter and warm demeanor. His enthusiasm for the 4th of July, particularly the horse pull competition, was unmatched and he took great pride in supporting and cheering on the competitors. He was formerly the President of the New Market Foundation, 4th of July Committee and a former New Market City Council Member. Steve also was the announcer at the Adams County Speedway for over 15 years. In addition to his love for family, faith and cows, Steve had a passion for racing and the Nebraska Cornhuskers that ignited his spirit. Whether behind the headset announcing or cheering from the stands, he found excitement and camaraderie in the worlds of the Huskers and racing. Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His unwavering love and commitment to his wife, children, and two special grandchildren, Reese and Ellie, defined his life. Known affectionately as "Grampie" to Reese and Ellie, Steve's face would light up with joy whenever they were around, and he made countless cherished memories with them. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense fulfillment in being there for them in every way possible. Steve's legacy lives on through the love and values he instilled in his family, leaving behind a profound impact on all who had the honor of knowing him. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Sandy Lamer, sister Gail Eitzen and sister-in-law Shelly Cabbage. Left to carry on his legacy is his wife Renay of New Market; sons, Jason (Megan) Cabbage and their children, Reese and Ellie Cabbage of Clarinda and Brett Cabbage (fiancé Anna Carlson) of Essex; daughter Madison Cabbage of Bellevue and her significant other Jeremy Lansink of Paulina, Iowa; brothers Kevin Cabbage of Stanton and Rick (Jolene) Cabbage of New Market; aunts, Janet (Cabbage) McClarnon of Charlotte, North Carolina and Mary (Don) Hargis of New Market; father-in-law George (Ellen) Dumont; brother-in-law Gerald Eitzen of Clarinda; sisters-in-law Sherri (Walter) Lonczak and Jessie (Jeff) Dupont, both of Seekonk, Massachusetts; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Steve will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will continue to live on in the memories and hearts of those whose lives he touched. Your love, laughter, and legacy will forever be remembered.

I spent many Saturday nights visiting with Steve and doing after race interviews at ACS. He and Rick also did a terrific job every year leading the ACS banquets. Never forget those fun times with him. So deeply sorry for your loss. From Karl Ritterbusch and the 67 crew
