Brian Brantner Obituary

Brian Dalen Brantner, M.D.

Prescott, AZ

Brian Dalen Brantner, M.D., 71, of Prescott, AZ, formerly of Ventura County, CA, passed away on August 29, 2018 doing what he loved, piloting his personal aircraft at the Prescott Regional Airport. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Tammy; his sons, Brian Paul (wife Sarah), Kyle (wife Sara), and Scott; daughter, Brielle; and grandson, Brian Hayden.

Brian was born to John and Arla Brantner in South Dakota. The oldest of five children, he spent his earliest years living on the family farm in South Dakota. At age 16, his family moved to Ventura, California. He graduated from Buena High School in 1965, and earned his B.A. in Zoology from California Lutheran University. Medical studies were pursued at the George Washington University Medical School, in D.C. graduating in 1973. He completed his residency training at UCLA in general surgery, then completed ENT training at University of California Irvine, and became certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (Head & Neck Surgery) in 1979. He practiced ENT for one year establishing a head & neck surgery department at the Mullikan Medical Group between 1978 and 1979. In 1979, Brian began his plastic surgery residency in Phoenix, Arizona, graduating in 1981, and was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1983.

In 1981, Brian with his family returned to Ventura, CA, where he established his practice, Brian D. Brantner, M.D., Inc., specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, and head and neck surgery. In 1985, he became a clinical attending for the UCLA Plastic Surgery Department. He remained actively teaching at UCLA, and became an Assistant Clinical Professor in Plastic Surgery. In 2014, after 33 years in Ventura, Brian sold his office and he, Tammy and Brielle moved to Prescott, AZ. After a very short retirement, he resumed practicing at Arizona Dermatology Group, where he continued to work up until to the time of his death.

Brian's profession was physician, but his passion was aviation. He was an avid pilot and had been flying since he was 16. He held a multiengine Airline Transport Pilot certificate, a commercial single engine seaplane rating, and a private rotorcraft rating and was type rated in the CE-500 Cessna Citation. He was a certified flight instructor for single, multiengine, and instrument ratings, and taught his oldest son, Brian Paul, to fly. Wanting to bring flying into his medical profession, he also served as a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA.

Brian's love of life and his pursuit of new heights in all that he did will continue to inspire all whose lives he touched. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15th at the Commemorative Air Force Museum, 455 Aviation Drive, Camarillo, CA. All who wish to honor Brian's memory are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, in honor of Brian's love for animals, please consider a donation to a pet rescue or animal shelter of your choice.

The world has lost a wonderful Doctor, a gifted pilot, a talented joke teller and a loving family man. I spent 5yrs in Ventura working for Dr B and along with Lupe, Suzie, Pam, Sharon, Steve, Danielle and Jackie we became our own little family! I learned so much from him at the office & in the surgery center... Dr B was not just a doctor but an artist with the human body; visualizing, molding & shaping areas that needed repair from accidents/trauma or enhancement procedures as well. His patients spoke wonders of not only his skills but of his comforting ways.. they just loved him and spread the word! I am so blessed not just for all that I learned which was a lot, not that it was there I truly fell in love w/ medical service but that I had my 1st mentor who taught me w/ patience & always took the time to answer my questions simply because he loved medicine & wanted others too as well. Thank You Dr B for all the laughter, learning and laudable standards... I'll forever be greatful and view you as family.
