Clyde Frye Obituary

Clyde David Frye, of Oxnard, CA, a gentle and quiet husband, dad, and grandpa, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, 10/30/13.

Born on January 29, 1924 in Lebanon, Mo, he was the only child of David and Bessie Frye. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Clyde returned home to Missouri where he met and married his bride, Alice June Kearney in 1947. Clyde drove a fuel oil truck for Standard Oil Company until 1953 when he moved his family to Ventura County. Clyde joined the Carpenter's Local Union where he was a member for over 50 years.

Clyde's passion was building beautiful structures of every kind; small and large. For many years, he built wooden train whistles, puzzles, and children's toys which were sold in boutiques throughout California. He supervised the building of the Ventura Assemblies of God Church, as well as the El Rio Bethany Chapel Assemblies Church. Clyde was an active member of Bethany Chapel, where he taught Sunday School and served as a church deacon. He also served for many years as a Board Member for the Vineyard Avenue Water Company.

In his later years, Clyde took pleasure in caring for his backyard avocado and macadamia nut trees. His grandchildren would often find him and his nutty macadamia treasures in his workshop where he always greeted them with a warm hug and compassionate ear.

Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Donald, and his parents, David and Bessie. He is survived by June, his dear wife of 66 years; daughters Joyce Nightingale and Judy McGee; grandchildren Jason, Rebekah, Diona, Michael, Tim, and great grandchildren, Kathleen, Ruth and Aron.

A Memorial Service was held at Bethany Chapel on Monday, November 4 at 11:00am with a reception immediately following. A private service of internment will take place on Tuesday, November 5, at the Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.

Clyde has been entrusted to the care of family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home 511 North A street Oxnard, CA 93030

I had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman who was exceptionally kind, warm hearted and humble. We had a conversation in his garage and he was proud to show me the tiny wood whales he manufactured for the little children (including my daughter) who graduated from swimming lessons at the old wagon wheel pool..
