Born December 30, 1925, son of David Lamb Strathearn Sr and Beatrice Montegomery Strathearn. He was born in Oxnard, CA.
David lived most of his life in Simi Valley, moving only late in life (about 15 years ago) to Palm Springs to enjoy the dryer, cleaner air. David was educated in Simi Valley and at Roswell Military Academy. His education which was interrupted by WW2, where he went to officers candidate school and he served as an Army Lt. in Bavaria (southern Germany) at the end of the war. Upon his return, he studied animal husbandry at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
David met his wife Janet in San Luis Obispo and they were married shortly after he finished his school. He worked in the family cattle ranching business, at the family Ford dealership in Moorpark, and other varied careers, including starting a newspaper in Simi Valley and owning and running a restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. He served the community, being on many community committees, his favorite of which was the Recreation and Parks committee in the early 60s. He also tried politics, running for Mayor of Simi the first time it tried to become a city the cityhood failed but, if it had passed, he had won the mayor election.
David had twin sons in 1956 and another son in 1960. He designed and built their first home, but moved the family within the west end of Simi Valley till he finally found, to him, a comfortable place to live. Regardless of where he lived, he always had a construction project going, either adding to the house or remodeling a part of it.
David loved to help others, doing so in many ways, from assisting in community projects to many much larger events, like helping children and young adults around him. Late in life medical conditions forced him to find a dryer environment, and he found a new home in Palm Springs, which he grew to love. He was happy in his later years, with many wonderful friends, whom he talked about to any who would listen, and he found comfort in his personal beliefs and his church.
David is survived by his sons Michael and Gary, his brother Bruce, and many loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned at Strathearn Historical Park. For more information, please contact Gary at 310-266-9978 or [email protected].

David was an amazing man who cared deeply for his friends and family. I was two years old when I first met him, though I do not remember that encounter. He was my father's best friend and after my father died, David stepped in and cared for me like I was his own daughter. I called him Dad for years and am so lucky to have had him in my life! I will miss him terribly.
