Edith A. Stevens, 86, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2014. She dealt with her Dementia for over two years. She was able to stay at home for her retired life of 25 years and was able to complete her last couple of weeks here on earth at home with the help of hospice. She always asked us to pick her up a memory at the grocery store when we shopped for her. She was a very devoted mom, raising 6 kids on her own, while holding a job as a RN at Community Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her 1 year old son, Donnie, and her 35-year-old daughter Kathi.
"Mom" is survived by her four sons, Matt (Lark), Bill, Richard (Peggy), and John (Susie). "Nana" had five grandchildren, Amber and Brian, Greg and Dave, and Dylan. We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Lori and Annette for all their compassionate help to mom.
We will have a memorial service at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura on March 8, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, we would prefer donations be made to the Livingston Memorial Hospice at www.livingstonvna.org.

You will always be remembered in a very special way. You were my very first client when I began my caregiving career. I learned everything I would need to know about relationship and caring for someone with Alzheimers. You and your family were so patient and nice to me as I learned to care for you as your disease progressed. We became friends and I really appreciated every member of your precious family. 9 yrs later I am still caregiving. Until we meet again Rest in peace my special friend.

Edith was the first nurse to train and mentor me as a brand new nurse on 4th floor telemetry night shift 1981. So kind and motivating for a new nurse. She knew it all and was happy to teach. Edith set a great example of what a true nurse is, I tried to carry on her positive attitude with new nurses I trained.

I remember Edith. I was a brand new nurse in 1987 and I worked on the fourth floor, the telemetry unit, and she had experience. She was always looking out for me and helping me when I needed it. I could never forget her. I remember Edith.
