Gilbert Trejo of Oxnard, California passed peacefully at home and entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Gilbert was born on February 4, 1936 to Cirilo Trejo & Guadalupe Zuniga in Oxnard, California. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ramona Trejo, daughter Donna Trejo, his parents, and his siblings Angela Cortez, Andrea Trejo, Alice Trejo Ramirez and Frank Trejo.

Gilbert worked over 32 years at Heublein/Del Monte/Nabisco ("the chileria") as an A-1 Steak Sauce Mixer. Gilbert enjoyed life and loved having fun. Everyone who knew Gil, knew that he loved spending time with his family. In his early years, he especially loved family events, whether they were at home, the park, the beach or on one of their adventurous camping trips. He also loved sports. He enjoyed playing softball with his family and co-workers. He always pitched a good game and was a clutch hitter. He loved watching professional sports, and he would support just about any team, especially when it involved a friendly wager, but he was truly a Dodger fan at heart. He enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin with his beloved wife Mona, as well as an occasional quick trip up to Chumash for breakfast.

He enjoyed cooking his favorites for the family, especially his chile con carne, frijoles, tamales at Christmas, and his amazing gorditas.

Gilbert had a witty sense of humor, and his plays on words would always make you laugh, and often wonder if he was serious or not. He will also be remembered for giving out personalized pens for holidays and you would always know which birthday gift was from him because it would be wrapped in newspaper comics.

Gilbert will forever be loved and remembered by his sons and daughters, Bobby (Brenda) Flores, Larry Flores, Gilbert (Lydia) Trejo, Dolores Trejo, and Theresa (John) Hernandez. He was also loved very much by his grandchildren Bobby, Carlos & Brandon Flores; Augie & Natalie Flores; Vanessa, Monique & John Hernandez; Janice, Eugene, Jacob & Tony Hernandez; and Gilbert & Sara Trejo. And, he was very blessed to have eight great-grandchildren, RoseMary, Daniel, Augie and Frankie Flores; Lauren Hernandez & Jordan Leighty; Carly Flores; and Melanie Hernandez. In addition to his immediate family, he was also always surrounded with love by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
