James "Jim" Urango, 84, of Oxnard, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday July 23, 2013 after a valiant fight with cancer. Jim was born in El Rio on January 20, 1929 to Ramona Ortega and Joseph Urango. He was a life-long resident of Ventura County.
Jim loved a good western (make that ANY western), the smell of newly tilled soil, strumming a tune on his guitar, fishing on the shores of the beach, baseball gamesprofessional, little league, and especially a children's pickup game at the park. He was a connoisseur of freshly baked cookies and on his birthday a box of chocolates would do just fine.
He was a strong man with a timeless sense of right and wrong, and a work ethic to match. He loved his wife and family and in time of need could always be counted on. He was generous, respectful and deeply spiritual.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sons, James and George; his sister Evelyn; brothers, Joseph, Romelo, Rudolfo, Clifford, and Louie Urango.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rosario Urango; children, Gigi Naber, Mary Avalos, Ralph Cecena, Raul Cecena, Ray Cecena, Margarita Jerman, Joseph Urango, Michael Urango, Richard Urango, Ronald Urango, and Roger Urango; 38 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella Tapia, Virginia Manzano and Ramona Cecil.
During his last days as he lay in his bed, a small knock could be heard at the door. Upon opening it, a large group of neighborhood children had gathered on the doorstep, skateboards, bikes and scooters in tow. They simply asked, "Can Grandpa come out?" Yes indeed many will miss Jim.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. Grandpa James Just wanted to say thank you for all the memories you left behind with us grandkids, you will always remain in my thoughts and never ever far from my heart. Thank you for loving me as much as you did, and even though we didnt see eachother often the times that we did share together are the times i will cherish. I will always remember the "Ranch" and all the good times running around in the orchards at night time and the one thing i will always remember is when we would get ready to leave your house you would walk us out and you would always say "I'll stand in the door and wave to you when you go over the bridge and you know what grandpa you always did, i will always remember that wave. Im saddened that i wasnt there for your passing, and believe me it tears me up inside every day knowing how much ive missed with my kids and my family. i just hope someday we will all be together again. I love you grandpa more then you will ever know. May you always Rest In Peace, fly high with the angels and until we meet again much love and respect to you always. your granddaughter Lisa or as you used to call me Leecha after you of course!!
