1920
2012
Passed away Sunday, September 30, at The Palms Assisted Living with family by her side.
She was born February 6, 1920, in Crystal, Maine, to parents Sylvester and Henrietta (White) Main, Marion grew up on a small family farm with two brothers and six sisters. Two of her sisters died in infancy.
After graduating from Aroostook State Normal School in Presque Isle, Maine, Marion became an elementary school teacher and taught 2nd grade in the Patten Primary School she had attended as a child.
In the early days of World War II, Marion met Army First Lt. John F. Mur while working for the summer at an aunts hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersey. They corresponded throughout the war, and married on March 3, 1946 in his hometown, Los Angeles. They settled in Culver City and had three daughters, followed by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where Marion held leadership positions.
She worked outside the home for many years as a teacher at Tiny Tot Preschool in Los Angeles. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Marion and John were married for 65 years. Family and friends cherish their loving example, and their Culver City home was a favorite gathering place to celebrate holidays and family occasions.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Henrietta; brothers Cecil Main and Bertram Buddy Main; sisters Theresa Green and Virginia Tweedie; and infant sisters Vesta Main and Henrietta Main. Marions daughter Linda Higley and Lindas husband, Richard Higley, also preceded her in death. Marion is survived by her husband, John; sisters Charlotte Corriveau and Eleanor Muir; daughters Barbara (Sam) Turner and Teresa Lee; grandchildren Elizabeth Turner, Mathew Turner, Rosanne (Darrell) Bustamante, Angela Higley, Jeremy Lee and Vickie Lee; and great grandchildren Christina Espinosa, Arren Bustamante, Megan Bustamante, Olivia Buskirk and Ian Ralph.
A graveside service was held October 6th at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, followed by a family gathering to celebrate her life.
