Culver City Fire Captain Steve Rankin died Tuesday evening February 2nd at his home in Moorpark, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness.

Over the ensuing 26 years he held the ranks of firefighter, fire inspector, paramedic, and engineer before promoting to captain in 2008. Captain Rankin took part in battling last summer's devastating Station Fire, where his engine company helped protect the residents of Tujunga and nearby cities.

To Steve's Family & Friends:
I grew up with Steve - he lived down the street from me. I remember our families going to the dentist together twice a year. Steve had a great sense or humor. He was fun to be around. I was shocked to hear of his death.
You're in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Yvonne & Jasmine Agredano

I met Steve when I was only 15, he lived across the street from my boyfriend Greg Clayton. He was always the kindest and sweetest guy you'll ever meet. I was shocked to hear of his passing and I want to tell his family that he touched so many lives with his smile and humor. May that give you strength during this time. God Bless and keep you close!!
With sincere sympathy!

The photo of Steve in this guest book is how I have and will always remember him. Every time I saw him and spoke to him, he always had a big smile on his face. He will be missed but as long as he is remembered he will never be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends, co-workers, and everyone else he touched.

I remember Steve's arrival at Culver City Fire Department. He also was hired at about thirty years old. As I remember, Paul Francis encouraged Steve to try for Culver City Fire. I was always grateful to Paul, because Steve was such a positive, pleasant person and always a great asset to the department.
It was fun to see you girls on the beach with your group last summer.
May God bless you as you trust Him during such a difficult loss.
In Christ's Love,

To those who are blessed to have known Steve,
I worked with Steve as a Culver City firefighter. He always had the glass half full attitude and every day was a beautiful day. He brightened a room with his smile and laughter.
I last saw him when he worked on the set of HELL'S KITCHEN and again, he was quick to make friends and represented the department to its highest standard.
He will be sorely missed but he joins another Angel of a guy, Curt Massey to watch over us and keep us on the straight and narrow.
God Bless you all,
Rich, Debi, Taryn and Kyle Momii

We are so blessed to have known Steve. He was so kind to our children even offering to teach them how to swim despite his very busy schedule. He always greeted us with a smile and kind words. Heaven has welcomed one of God's most beautiful creations.
Sincerely,
