I am so sorry to hear that Phyllis has gone to her rest. I have benefitted by her family history research on the Horton family. It was through these writing that I was trying to contact Phyllis and found I was too late.
I am proud to have some of the same dna though our ancestors.

I was honored to be asked by Phyllis to help her (and Marion) at the Joiner History Room at the beginning. I helped once a week until May 1993 when my husband, Bob, reitred from NIU and we moved to Arizona. When I returned for summers I again helped out for a number of years. Phyllis always teased me about my distress in finding that red stuff on a Civil War Bounty paper. She said, Yes, Beve I think that is blood. What a great lady! I was out of the country so could not be with you at the funeral home.

Many condolences, Maureen. I knew your mom from when she worked with my mom at Kroger, and later through the Joiner facility. She was a sweet, bubbly woman whose smile was infectious, and she will be missed.

My sympathies to your family. Your mom inspired me as a young teenager to pursue my family history and offered encouragement over the years. She was a wonderful lady and dedicated historian!

Phyllis was a special friend with whom I shared historical tidbits. I will always remember the research trip we made
to Canada. We were disappointed to find that we had arrived when the Museum was going to be closed. Closed was not about to stop a true historian. Your Mom picked up the phone and called the man who was in charge. The result: We had a private tour. I'm sure you have all had similar experiences and will miss her presence. You have my sympathy.

I remember when I was 4 or 5 that Mrs. Kelley was my favorite person at the Kroger in Dekalb/Sycamore when my mom would take me shopping. My condolences to the Kelley family.

Although it has been quite some time since I saw Phyllis, her smile hadn't changed. She was always ready to take on a new challenge. So much knowledge and always ready to share and teach what she knew. She will be truely missed by many.

What a wonderful lady and historian! You just could not help yourself from getting excited as she was when she uncovered a new tidbit of information. Her enthusiasm for history was contagious! Phyllis will be missed, but we know she will be watching over the Joiner Room!
