Shirley Ball Obituary


SHIRLEY CAROL (BRANHAM) BALL, age 76, of Pounding Mill, VA fought a short but brave battle with cancer and passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 under hospice care at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA.
Shirley was born on May 30, 1948 in Grundy, VA to the late Hassell and Nell McGlothlin Branham. She was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School, Class of 1966. After graduation, she attended and graduated from the Clinch Valley Clinic LPN program in 1968. She furthered her education at the University of Alabama, earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree in 1987. Upon returning to Richlands, in 1988, She continued her career at CVMC in the Nursery of the OB Department. In 1990, she joined her former mentor and friend Dolores Mulkey, as the clinical instructor of the Tazewell County Career and Technical Center LPN program. She retired in 2014, after 24 years of service., spending the next decade caring for her grandchildren in Ohio. Shirley was of the Baptist faith and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all her students, coworkers, family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece Kelly Clifton and nephew Kevin Branham.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved son, Joe Ball and daughter in law Dani and her five cherished grandchildren, Devon, Jaxson, Ziva, Nelleigha and Branham Ball of Morral OH. She is also survived by her siblings; two brothers, Darrell Branham and wife Ann and Danny Branham and wife Bonnie, all of Defiance, OH; one sister, Linda Branham of Roanoke, VA.; nephew, Michael Branham and wife, Angie of Defiance OH; two Nieces, Martha Dale and husband, Travis of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Samantha Taylor and husband, Chris of Salem VA. Several great nieces, nephews as well as many extended family members and friends also survive.
The family wishes to thank the Oncology Department and the entire staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center and Legacy Hospice for their excellent care of Shirley.
The family received friends 12-1 PM on Saturday March 15, 2025 at Singleton Funeral Service. A Memorial Service was at 1PM in the chapel with Rev. JP Richardson officiating. A special ceremony by the Southwest Virginia Nurse Honor Guard preceded the Memorial Service.
