I only met Derrick once at Greg's New Years Party a few years back. I have several pictures of him and Greg bartending and he was so happy and fun to be around. I know he and Mary were so in love and my heart breaks for Mary. I never met Derrick's sons but my heart goes out to them and their mother & the rest of the family during this tragic time.

D,
Wus-up Bro ? Sorry I missed ya earlier today, I planned on comin' down, hangin' with ya for a minute, and talkin' 'bout old times. But when it came time, It waz harder than I thought. I know you'll forgive me, you never held a grudge on anyone. Wouldn't the world be a better place if we all could forgive like you ?
Hey, I never told Becky or Heather we let them beat us in the corn tournament on the cruise...yea right, they nailed us! That waz great but the drinks that nite were even better. how 'bout your big "Travolta' entrance on the disco floor. Ha-Ha , I still remember you thinkin' you were gonna slide across the dance floor ...and you stuck like velcro !!!!!!! Du-u-ude, That waz some funny!! Yea and they keep tellin' me I climbed a pole that nite, I don't really remember gettin'up the pole, but I do remember comin' down....on you and Mary ! Just like hundreds of others are sayin' , Thanx for being there when I needed ya!
And Dude besides Spongebob, your like the happiest guy I know, . Nothing ever bothers you or gets you down, and you have a positive aditude about everything. Your, like ,my idol or somethin. I'm serious. Sometimes when the world gets me down, I just think, " What would D-Shaw think if he saw me down ?" and then I say " He would have that eatin' grin on his face and say " Come on Dude ...Lets go have some fun" ...so then I put a eatin grin on my face,have a little fun ,and the pain goes away! You should have put a patent on that.
I know mom and pops are proud of ya. Pops alwayz talkin' bout ya on hiz card runs and grandma Barbara alwayz had stories 'bout "her boyz " at the dinner table and had a proud voice in every one.
We only had a minute but straight up Dude, I don't know alot about you! Heck, I thought you worked for frito- lay.(by the way, I waz alwayz waitin' for my chips ) But what I do know about you iz that, I believe if I had an outlook on life like yours, I could make Becky ,my kids,my family and friends alot happier. Isnt that what life iz all about? ...makin the ones you love happy !!!
Iz that why God shared you with us for just a short time, to show us all how we should be...like you ,makin people happy ...
I mean your heart iz so good ,God wants to use it again. Now how many people can say that ?
Tell ya what Bro, if ya promise not to tell anyone, I'll let your life be an inspiration for mine. You, Me and Spongebob, the Shaw-migos ! ( think Mary will like the name ? ) Now thatz Shaw-some !!! which I still own the copyrites to by the way.
Hey Bro , I gotta go. Itz gettin' late and your big day iz tommarrow. Get some rest and tell J.C. to save me a room with a view , but don't turn the sheets back just yet!

thanx for listenin'

To Mary, the boys, Marci, Rog and the fam;

We were so devistated to hear the news. There isn't a man out there who could take the place of Derrick, who he was and what he brought to everyone he knew. Derrick was always outgoing, happy, fun, he was the guy that everyone knew, and he was always doing something big and great. Above all he was loving and lived for his boys and Mary. He will be deeply missed. We will miss Derrick and our hearts just break knowing what is missing in your lives. We love you guys and send our deepest condolences for this sudden and tragic loss.

I am glad I had the opportunity to know and work with Derrick. He was very committed to doing a great job, had nothing but a positive outlook and mindset and was an asset to his company, those who had the benefit of working with him. He always spoke of his kids, I know he lived for them and was so proud of them. I am sorry to see him gone, I will always remember him and his laugh.

Words can't describe the energy he brought to a room or the light in his smile and grin. Those memories will always be in our hearts and minds. Rog and Marcie I grieve with you. In the Lord's house there are many rooms. Now that Derek is there "He can set up the Boards, so when we get there, we can throw some more." Psalm 23

Our family sends our deepest sympathies to Derrick's family. Derrick was such a positive influence and role model to my son and his "skating buddies" when they were young boys. He always took the time to share skating stories and build dream skateboards with them during the many hours they spent in his store! He will be truly missed.

If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane, we would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Our hearts still ache in sadness, and secret tears still flow, what it meant to lose you, no one will ever know. But now we know you want us to mourn for you no more, to remember all the happy times, life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, we pledge to you today, a cherished place within our heart, is where you'll always stay!
Love always, Uncle Mike, Sherri, and Mary too
