Julian "Jay" Salazar died peacefully at home on Friday, September 16, 2016 in Porterville, California at the age of 71. Though he will be missed, he is at home with his Lord. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Julian & Helen Salazar of Delano and his brother Pete Medrano.
Jay is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon Salazar; their three sons Jason (Christy), Bryan (Eve), and Derric (Jenna); six grandchildren Katie, Ali, Morgan, Alden, Nyah, & Mercedes; his sister Belinda (Carolyn) Salazar; his brother Luis; and other extended family.
Jay was born on March 31, 1945, in Delano. Jay served in the U.S. Army from 1966-69, and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. Jay served as a Porterville Police Officer from 1976-1977. He worked for the Tulare County Sheriff's Office from 1977 to 2003, most notably as a skilled homicide investigator. Jay retired from TCSO in 2003 as a Lieutenant, but worked as a reserve cold case investigator from 2004-2014 for the Tulare County Sheriff and Visalia Police Departments.
Jay was a beloved husband, father, brother, papa, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met. Jay was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he loved to serve the Lord and others and was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge. Jay loved spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and being with Sharon.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10 am at Port Naz in Porterville, 2005 W. Olive Ave. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Calvary Baptist Church at 1768 N. Newcomb, Porterville, CA 93257. Arrangements entrusted to Myers Funeral Services, 247 N. Just read of Jay's passing a couple day's ago. I worked in the T.C.S.O. Coroner's Unit from 3-98 to 7-10 when I retired. After a total of 35 years in Law Enforcement, I can honestly say Lt. Jay was one of the most respected people that I had the pleasure of working for. I give you a salute!! R.I.P. Lt. Salazar. Det. P. Frederick T.C.S.O. (ret).

Our Dear Friend, How we will miss you in our lives. Your professionalism, love of people and great sense of humor will always be admired.
Our fondest memory of your humor took place while you were working with the coroner's office. During Ralph Diaz' retirement dinner, our young daughter asked the innocent question of what an exhumed body looks like. You just calmly replied with such authority,
"LIKE MENUDO!" The entire table exploded in hysteria and she couldn't sleep for nights and still can't stand the thought of menudo !
We will love you forever and send God's blessings to the entire family.

Dear Sharon, I was so very sorry to hear of Jay's passing and I wanted to send my condolences to you and your boys. Jay will be forever missed. I will miss his stories when he was partners with Ralph Diaz and they shared so many. I remember when they told me they were both out on a call and that Ralph asked Jay to let him borrow his gun because he didn't have his lol... That made me laugh so much. These two guys were amazing and admired by a lot of people. Love you and will miss you, Jay!
