Luis Rodriguez Obituary

Luis Rodriguez

May 11, 1925 - January 18, 2017

Visalia

Longtime Lindcove resident and World War II veteran, Luis Rodriguez, lost his three and a half year battle from a head injury and passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday January 18, 2017 at a nursing home in Visalia. He was 91.

Luis and his wife Marie of 68 years fell in love after he returned from the war in Europe. They were married in May 1948 and saw their family grow by five in the next twelve years with three girls and two boys.

Luis made his living as a mechanic in Exeter. Later he would run his own machine shop in Visalia. Luis and Marie wanted the best for their children so they bought 13 acres of land and produced oranges and plums. The profits put their five children through college. Luis served on the Sequoia Union elementary and Exeter High school boards. In retirement he was active in the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.

Being a devoted husband to Marie for nearly seven decades, he considered as his greatest accomplishment. He also marveled over seeing his three daughters become teachers and his sons a civil engineer and a broadcaster.

He is survived by his wife Marie; his daughters, Teresa of Farmersville, Anita of Kingsburg and Diana from Lindcove plus his two sons Robert of Galesburg, Illinois and Richard from Fresno. There are also 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Luis was a proud Veteran who left Exeter High in 1944 to answer Uncle Sam's call to become part of the Army's 144th Field Artillery Unit that fought in this country's most costly battle of all-time, The Battle of the Bulge. He later faithfully attended his 240th field artillery reunions held in the Midwest.

A Rosary will be recited at Smith Family Chapel in Exeter Wednesday evening January 25, 2017 at 6:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm January 26, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church in Exeter. Military rites will be offered by Am-Vets Post 56, Tulare.
