Maybelle Dumont Obituary

Maybelle Rose Dumont

South Royalton, VT - Maybelle Rose Dumont, 88, of South Royalton, VT, died on July 24, 2025, at Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center.

Maybelle was born on September 18, 1936, in Royalton, VT, the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Ingham) Gagne.

She attended South Royalton High School and lived in the charming schoolhouse she adored as a young child. On July 9, 1956, she married Richard Dumont.

Growing up on her family's market garden farm, known as Gagne Gardens in Royalton, instilled Maybelle's love for vegetable plants, flowers, and herbs.

She was known for her delicious foods when catering large events. Her gift of cooking for crowds was learned from Percy Abair while working at his diner in Royalton. Her food was enjoyed at churches, weddings, private parties, local Lyons Clubs, Masons, 4-H, and county fairs.

Maybelle received an honorable Rotarian Award from the Bethel Rotary Club for the 20 years of cooking and preparing dinners for their weekly meetings. She especially enjoyed cooking food from various countries for the rotary international night.

Giving to others is how Maybelle nurtured her own spirit. She spent long days cooking and setting up functions to benefit fire victims or health-stricken individuals. Her famous chicken pie suppers drew in extra large crowds.

Outside of cooking and catering she enjoyed fishing, camping, simple rides along VT roads, and visiting people at the family farmstead. She loved going "jeeping", even it meant using her VW Bug. She also loved to paint and won many ribbons at local fairs. Her artistry for oil painting was learned from Royalton resident, Lee Ward, in the 1960's. Maybelle was an original member starting the Ridge Climbers Snowmobile Club in the 1970's. One achievement on Maybelle's bucket list happened when she jumped out of an airplane at the age of 79. Ultimately, sharing kindness is what provided her with the most pleasure.

Survivors include her sons Tom Dumont, Michael Dumont and Andrew Dumont; daughter Merry Ferranti; grandchildren Thomas Ferranti and Ryan Ferranti; and by 4 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by both parents, her husband, Richard Dumont, and by her four siblings.

In Maybelle's honor please consider making a donation to the South Royalton Rescue Squad or the Ty View Farm (a nonprofit rescue farm for horses) in Bethel, VT.

Always a smile and upbeat whenever we talked. Her food was great and a friend to VSP Bethel Barracks back in the day.
