Robert Pomeroy Obituary

Robert Corttis Pomeroy

Quechee, VT - Robert Corttis Pomeroy, 79, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at his Quechee, VT home surrounded by his family, after recently being diagnosed with ALS.

Bob was born September 17, 1943, in Syracuse, NY, son of Stuart and Elizabeth "Betty" (Corttis) Pomeroy. He earned a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College in 1965 and a JD from Harvard Law School in 1968. Upon graduation, he joined the Boston law firm of Goodwin Procter. As a partner, he practiced Trusts and Estate Planning until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the Boston, Florida, and American Bar Associations, and a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Council and its local New England affiliate. He was a fellow of the American Heart Association and Trust Chairman of Planned Giving and a lifetime supporter of Hamilton College.

"Bones," as he was affectionately nicknamed by his childhood friends, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 57 years, Sandra "Sandy" Campbell Pomeroy of Quechee and Dataw Island, SC; his three children: Lisa Pomeroy Malik and her husband, Saleem Malik, of Atlanta, GA, Robert "Cort" Corttis Pomeroy, Jr. and his wife, Amanda Northrop, of Groton, MA, and Heather Pomeroy Kelley and her husband, Christopher Kelley, of Winchester, MA; his nine grandchildren: Campbell Malik Taylor and her husband, James Samuel Taylor, III., Jason Aslam Malik, Robert Hobie Malik, Anna Rose Pomeroy, Grace Elizabeth Pomeroy, Henry Weldon Pomeroy, Elizabeth "Liza" Campbell Kelley, Thomas O'Brien Kelley, and Amy Pomeroy Kelley; his great-granddaughter: Elizabeth "Betty" Noor Taylor; and two brothers: Gay Milton Pomeroy of Syracuse and William Jeffrey Pomeroy of Homer, NY.

Bob was known for his brilliant mind, integrity, wit, and understated presence. In his retirement, Bones and Sandy found joy in travel and family vacations with their children and grandchildren. Bob loved sailing, computers, skiing, hiking, golf, bridge, and other card games, and puzzles of all kinds. Most importantly, he deeply enjoyed the camaraderie of his wife, family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his wonderful life, which will take place in Quechee, VT on Thursday, June 22, 2023. For more details about the celebration, contact members of the Pomeroy family.

I just found out about Bones's passing. Lee and I share your deep sorrow. I remember all the good times we had together - too numerous to recount -- Bones was gifted in so many ways - his brilliant mind, his calm disposition, he wry humor and his kindness - I will always remember you and Bones being so good to me when my mother was dying and we had to cut short a fun week-end at the Cape so I could go to Toronto - you helped me pack and tried to console me and drove me to Boston - Lee and I send you all of our love - you are in our thoughts and hearts and prayers - there will never be another Bones - he was that unique in so many good ways -
