Violet C. Simpson
Newport, NH - Violet Catherine Simpson passed away at her home in Newport, New Hampshire, on Friday, October 3, 2025. Violet (Haczyk) Simpson was born on January 30, 1949, in Port Chester, New York. She was the daughter of her Ukrainian mother, Sophie (Martusenko), and Polish father, Florian Haczyk, both immigrants from Europe at the end of World War II. She grew up attending schools in both Port Chester, NY, and Byram, CT, and graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School in Stamford, CT, and Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, CT. Violet married Eldon J. Simpson, Jr. in 1971 and had two children, Lauren in 1974, and Darren in 1980. Eldon and Violet worked together for over 40 years in five United Methodist Churches in Connecticut and New York, before retiring to Newport, NH in 2013. Violet continued to be active in the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Newport and other community groups such as the Richards Free Library, the Library Arts Center, and the Newport Community Thrift Shop.
Violet is survived by her husband, Eldon, daughter Lauren, of Canaan, NH, son Darren and grandchildren Francesca and Vincenzo, of Farmingdale, NY.
Violet will be remembered for many things, including her dedication to the United Methodist Church, her work ethic - always giving 110%, her constant pursuit of excellence (her words!), her meticulous planning skills, her love of exploring our country while visiting friends along the way, her excellent home cooking, her sweet and tender nature, her unsinkable upbeat attitude about life, her effort to make the world a better place, her immense love for her grandchildren, her ability to listen for hours as a loving parent, her passion for literacy, her incredible talent for being a cheerleader for others, her compassion for animals in her care, her courage and resilience when facing adversity, and her incredible loyalty.
Visitation with the family followed by a Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 11 Park Street, Newport, NH on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 10 AM. Light refreshments will be served following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a tribute donation to the non-profit Sesame Workshop at

The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to the staff of Lake Sunapee VNA for their wonderful care of Violet. We also would like to thank Kay Yeagley for volunteering to visit to read and spend time with Violet in her last months - your demonstrations of love will not be forgotten.
