Steve Temple Obituary

Steve Temple, 72

Steven Temple, 72, of Superior passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones. A service will be held in Superior at St. Mary Queen of Heaven church, 1pm on January 4,2025. Online condolences may be left at gardencityfh.com.

Steven Donald Temple, son of Donald and Alice (Hinderhan) Temple, was born February 17, 1952 in Alton, Illinois. He spent his younger years in Missouri before the family moved to Corona, California early in his high school years. Steve met his high school sweetheart/wife, Peggy Miller, at Corona Senior High School from where they graduated in 1970. Steve and Peggy were married in 1972 and moved to Riverside, Ca. Steve continued his education at Cal Poly Pomona and graduated with a bachelor's in accounting. Steve worked at the City of Chino prior to serving the City of Hemet, California as Director of Finance then City Manager for 27 years before retiring.

Steve was an adventurous fellow and passionate about all types of fishing, especially fly fishing and spent many summers prior to retirement on the rivers in Wyoming and Montana. Steve also was an avid water skier and snow skier, racing competitively in both sports and holding national titles within both. He was also a moto-cross racer, mountain biker, pilot and scuba diver. After 14 years of marriage and adventures he welcomed his son Michael into the family. Steve loved to share his activities with him, and they had many exciting stories to tell! The love of outdoors led them to Superior where he could fish, fly, ski and hunt. Steve became a fishing guide and obtained his outfitting license. The couple opened Clark Fork Trout a fly shop and guide service in St. Regis and re-retired in January of 2023.

Steve believed in helping his community as served as the Mineral County Airport Manager, a member of the Superior Lion's Club and was a volunteer firefighter for 17 years, the last five as Fire Chief before retiring (again) in 2023. Steve loved the Montana outdoors, especially being on the river fishing. He also enjoyed flying his plane and boating on the ocean with Peggy. Steve loved collecting and building classic cars and shared these activities with his grandson and friends. Above all else, he was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. Steve will be greatly missed by all, as he was always supportive of those around him and an uplifting influence.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Peggy Temple; son, Mike (Tiffany) Temple; grandchildren, Anastasia and Vincent Temple; niece, Aubrey Miller; father, Donald Temple; siblings, Bob (Evelyn) Temple; Linda (John) Tinkham; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Temple.

Steve's memory will live on in stories (especially fishing), laughter and love by those whose lives he touched. A memorial river float will be planned for the summer to share these memories, stories and a few beers!

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve and Peggy on two occasions, both during the county fair. We were city boys from Southern California enjoying the Superior life. Fishing with Steve (and Brooks) was a treat. Peggy treated us to some delicious meals. The picture I posted was from our first trip. Jerry Delmont, far right, knew Steve from Riverside. It was a treat both times we visited. Best to the Temple family. Mario Ramirez

We always had such a wonderful time with Steve and Peggy on the L&L AmaWaterways Wine cruises we were able to travel on with them. Steve was a salt of the earth guy and he will truly be missed. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Peggy and the entire family. With love from Ron & Joanne Ehlers
