Carolyn Bell Obituary

Carolyn Marie (Burkett) Bell, of Lewisville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in Lewisville, at age 72. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck officiating. Burial will follow at the Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Carolyn was born July 12, 1937, to Lee Cruce Burkett and Opal Inez (White) Burkett at Overton. The family moved to Marquez when she was 13 where she attended school until she moved as a young adult to Houston. She lived in the Houston area the rest of her life until she moved to Lewisville three months ago. In Houston, she was a teacher for the Houston Independent School District, where she retired in 1997 after 27 years. Carolyn sang and played the piano, playing often in her home. She had the heart of a child, having fun, and always learning. She loved her children and grandchildren, and loved to spend time with them, constantly teaching them things in which she was interested. She loved gardening, painting, observing and teaching about nature and science, and helping others. The family will deeply miss her and will be daily reminded of her in the music and nature which she taught them to love. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Jones and granddaughter, Breanna Jones of Lewisville; and a daughter, Joy Jones and granddaughter, Joy Sunshine Jones of Friendswood. She also is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Ken Neyland of Thornton; nephew, Todd Neyland and his wife, Julie of Thornton; and great-nephews, Drew Neyland and Will Neyland of Thornton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Carolyn's honor may be made to the American Heart Association.
