October 30, 1944 - February 17, 2024

The Oswalt Family lost a kind and loving brother, father, brother-in-law, grandfather and uncle Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024. Dr. Charles Edward Oswalt passed away in Dallas due to complications of Parkinson's Disease contracted from Agent Orange while serving his country as a MASH Surgeon/Physician in Vietnam. Chuck was born Oct. 30, 1944, in Galveston, to Dr. Charles E. Oswalt (Ozzie) and Eugenia Dawson (Gene) Oswalt.

He received his education in Fort Stockton schools and attended Texas Christian University. He then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch for his M.D. degree, following training was in General Surgery. He served as a MASH surgeon in Vietnam. Following the army, he married Martha Kreulen and they had a son, Chase Oswalt.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha (Bootie); and brother, William M. Oswalt, M.D. He is survived by his son, Charles E. Oswalt, IV; grandsons, Charlie and Will Oswalt; brother, John D. Oswalt, M.D. and wife Karen; sister, Judy Swift and husband Steve; sister-in-law, Lesa Oswalt, RN; brother, Barry F. Oswalt, M.D. and wife Susan; and dearly loved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the many close friends from TCU, fraternities, medical school and his career that have remained steadfast in their love and respect for him through letters, phone calls and visitations throughout this difficult journey. What he leaves for us to remember is the gift to persevere, his fortitude and his general appreciation of love and life and faith in the Lord.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Memorial donations may be made to parkinsons.org or a charity of your choice.

I worked as a nurse with
Dr Oswalt in the Emergency Room at Bear County Hospital San Antonio where he was completing his surgical residency back in the 70´s. His presence always commanded great respect as he was mature, quiet and always kind to all of the nurses. He had such class and integrity; Dr Oswalt demonstrated Jesus with all that he said and did with/for the staff and the patients.
I´m so glad he is in Heaven where I hope to see him some day.
I send my deepest condolences to all of his family and friends.

We did an estate sale for Dr. Oswalt a number of years ago following the death of his wife. We remember him so well. Wish I had known of his VN service at the time. We could have exchanged so many stories. So sorry to learn of his passing.

I remember years ago when Chuck and Bootie joined Highland in the old sanctuary. May all of chuck's friends and relatives find comfort, as they adjust to life without his physical presence.
