Daniel Castillo Obituary

Daniel "Danny" Castillo II, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, April 18, 2008. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Latin American United Methodist Church at 1320 Webster, Waco with the Rev. Kenneth Boatman officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, with Military Honors. Danny was born Sept. 3, 1970, in Pomona, Calif. He was reared in Waco and attended Waco public schools. After graduating from University High School in 1990 he attended McLennan Community College. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 15, 1993 through Nov. 23, 2000. He attended basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and advanced training at Keesler AFB in Mississippi where he specialized in Ground Radio Communications Journeyman. He was stationed in Florida, Germany, New Mexico and served in Bosnia and Saudi Arabia. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Commendation Medal, Longevity Service Award, Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Ribbon/Rifle, Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and NATO Medal. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Salem, Ore., where he was a certified electrician and member of the International Brotherhood Electrical Union. Survivors include his mother, Lydia Melendez; sisters, Zsaine Harris and husband, Steve, and Angela Maldonado-Jimenez and husband, Frank; niece, Samantha Jimenez; nephews, Adrian Castillo, James Hahn Jr. and Frank Jimenez Jr.; grandmother, Frances Torres; aunt, Pricilla Torres and husband, Jose; uncle, Abel Torres and wife, Dora; and many cousins and family members. Pallbearer is Frank Duarte, Danny's "mijo and brother" at heart. Danny will be remembered, among many things, for his beautiful smile, giving nature and love for family and friends. I was fortunate to meet Danny through his friend, Alex Castro, down in Salem. The few times I got the chance to be with him in the same room he brought a special vibe and made everyone laugh. Aunt Candy,
I love you & I'm sorry that I can't be there with you. Danny will be really missed. I remember him always being the life of all the Christmas partys & every time i saw him , he would give a hug that never seemed to end. I would like to say how deeply sorry I am. I remember Danny when we were kids and he was always a good person as well as a true friend. He was always a happy person and treated everyone with respect.
