John "Woody" Carter
Sept. 8, 1958 - July 11, 2022
John Norwood Carter, best known as Woody, passed away on July 11 at the age of 63 from a rare immune disorder called HLH. Woody was born in Canyon, TX on September 8,1958. He was the youngest of two children born to Peggy Joyce (Barnes) and John Bailey Carter, Jr. He grew up in Waco and lived there until he joined the US Navy. He served for eight years as a Religious Program Specialist having been stationed with the Marine Corp at Cherry Point, NC and the Navy Training Center in Orlando, FL. After he left the Navy in 1991, he and his family moved to Richardson, TX. He immediately began work in the pawn industry. He was most recently with EZ Corp for 21 years and was a District Manager.
He loved his family and treasured spending time with them. Nothing made him happier than to have his children and grandchildren together and get up early to cook a big breakfast for everyone. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed nature and all of the beauty it offered. His favorite destination was Marathon, FL with clear blue water, sea turtles and manatees, and the fabulous fishing it offered. It was his happy place. He also enjoyed spending time in Broken Bow, OK and jeeping the San Juan mountains in Colorado.
Woody will be remembered for his big smile that he offered effortlessly. He was kind and cared about the welfare of others. It was easy for him to connect with people so he rarely met a stranger. His love of animals was apparent in how he treated his dogs and the wildlife that visited his backyard.
Woody leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Theresa (Baade) Carter; son Robert Carter, wife Mary and their three sons, Luke, Michael and Blake; son Caleb Carter and wife Casey; sister Sherry Burke plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 21, 2022 at 3:00 pm at The Nature and Retreat Center at Oak Point Park, 5901 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, TX 75074.
