Linda Bood Obituary

Linda Kay Bood

Aug. 22, 1951 - Jan. 15, 2022

Linda Kay (Schlemmer) Bood passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022, at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was born to Ruby and Lawrence Schlemmer on August 22, 1951, in Mart, Texas. She is a 1969 graduate of LaVega High School where she participated in volleyball and drill team. After graduating, she gained employment with the Department of Veterans Affairs where she retired in 2011 after 41 years of service. She most recently worked part-time at Merle Norman Cosmetics where she enjoyed "getting out of the house" to work alongside coworkers that would become dear friends.

Linda loved fishing, playing golf with her women's group, reading and swapping books with friends and holding garage sales. She also enjoyed going to the movies, traveling, quilting and tending to her garden of vegetables. She fervently tried shipping her harvests to her daughter that never ended up making it in one piece. She enjoyed making her award-winning salsa from her tomato crop and cooking "epic" scrambled eggs for her grandchildren. Being a "Nana" was the greatest joy in her life. She rarely missed a game or school event when the grandchildren resided in Waco. Linda brightened many lives and had friends near and far and we are at peace knowing there is no more pain.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruby and Lawrence Schlemmer. She is survived by her husband, Doyle; daughter, Amy Flanagan (Mark) of South Carolina; daughter, Melanie Flanagan (Tim) of Colorado; brother, James Schlemmer (Beverly); nieces, Kristie Walsh and Kimberly Barker; and grandchildren that she adored, Carson, Hudson, Kellan and Kyndal.

A visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., January 19, at Lake Shore Funeral Home. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellmead, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 20. Burial will follow at Mart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the 'Ol Sew 'n Sows of St. Paul Lutheran for the quilting of prayer runners. Attn: St. Paul Lutheran Church Quilters, 1301 Hogan Lane, Waco, Texas 76705; the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank family and friends and the staff with Providence Hospice Place for their support and care during her last days. Thoughts and memories may be shared at www.lakeshoreFH.com.

It was a true pleasure to work with Linda. She was a very smart lady, friendly and cooperative. She had many friends at work and her expertise in all assignments enabled to do a good job herself and lead others as well. She will be missed by many.

I knew Linda many years ago when I was in elementary and middle school and she was a few years older. She let a bratty little kid follow her around and she was so very kind and patient. We reconnected a couple years ago at my mother“s funeral. It was so very special to see her again and she was still the kindest, most gracious , tender hearted person I remembered. Rest In Peace my dear old friend!
