Raymond Glenn Obituary

Raymond Glenn

July 26, 1928 - June 28, 2022

Raymond Glenn, 93 of Waco, passed away June 28, 2022 at Stoney Brook in Hewitt. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10:00 am at Waco Memorial Park.

Raymond was born July 26, 1928 in El Campo, TX to Elbert Raymond Glenn and Ruby Mae Green Glenn. They moved to Bay City in 1936, where Raymond attended school. In 1943, when his older friends joined the Marine Corps, Raymond went to California and joined the Corps. After a security check with the police in Bay City, Raymond was discovered to not be of age, and his parents would not sign for him to join, so he was released and returned to Bay City to finish school. In 1948, when another group of friends joined the Navy, he again went to the Marines, where he served 2 tours in Korea, one of which was the Chosin Reservoir, and he served 2 tours in Vietnam, including Operation Shufly in 1962. He transferred to Fleet Reserve in April of 1972, and retired in September of 1980 as a Master Gunnery Sargent with 32 total years of service.

After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Raymond became a farmer of rice and soy beans in the Gulf Coast area of Texas for 5 years. He then went onto the oil field business, preparing drill sites for South La. Contractors for nine years before retiring in 1986.

In 1992, Raymond and his wife Anne moved to Waco and in 1996 began another phase of their life working for the US Army Corps of Engineers as park attendants, traveling and working in various locations until 2006 when Raymond became ill and was in poor health.

Raymond was a member of the VFW, Marine Corps Assn, Marine Corps League, Retired Enlisted Assn, American Legion and various other organizations. But most of all, he was a United States Marine.

His wife Anne Glenn passed away May 7, 2021 after 52 years of marriage.

He is survived by his son, Nelson Glenn and wife Darlene of Tucson, AZ; daughters Durga Ishaya of Washington State, and Sondra Harms and husband Tom of Livingston, MT; stepsons Randy Roberts and wife Amy of Waco, and Keith Roberts of Hewitt; sister Libby Bissett of Fulshear, TX; grandchildren Ryan Glenn and Tyler Glenn of Washington State, Joel Cutensohn of North Carolina, Chelsea Coble and husband Shawn of Tucson, Amanda Harms and Marvin Garnet of Livingston, MT, Lindsey Harms of Livingston, MT, Marissa Glenn of Virginia, April Roberts of Hewitt, Randy Roberts, JR. of Waco, Ashley Rieger and husband Aaron of Waco, and Parker Goodrum of Waco; great grand children Tristain, Sophia, Jacob, Silvia, Victoria, Logan, Fynlee, Fallyn, Estare, and Alanie Anne.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jenny and Rylee for all the love they showed Raymond, and to Alamo Hospice for all they did for Raymond. He made some very special friends.

They would also like to thank Stoney Brook kin Hewitt. We can't put into words the care y'all gave Raymond. He loved it there and loved all of y'all.
