Richard Hernandez Obituary

Richard Hernandez, 65, of Waco, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, in a Waco hospital of complications from diabetes. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Oakwood Cemetery, with Chaplain Bryan Pendelton officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, June 26, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco. Following the services, there will be a gathering hosted by Teresa Almanza. Richard was born Dec. 30, 1943, in Waco, to Jessie T. Hernandez and Minnie Franco. Richard was known by everyone as "Dickey." He graduated from Waco High School and had an adventurous and successful career in transportation, from which he retired. He had many outstanding friends, some of which were saints in helping him at the end of his life, such as his best friend, Robert Lopez, neighbors, Leroy and Rufus, who sacrificed much of their time, and especially his next door neighbor, Ann Rushing, who truly sacrificed much of her time looking after "Dickey," his house when he was on trips, and at the hospital. Among all the many things she did for "Dickey," Ann was a true friend. Richard is survived by his sister, Gloria Larson; and his brother, Edward Hernandez. I was a neighbor of his brother and family. I will always remember DICKIE. He had a smile that would melt your heart. A happy laugh and enjoyed his visits down the street from my home. Still live on Kiowa Rd. in Westminster. Forever missed, until we meet again.

Remembering Dickie as a kind and loving person. His brother & family lived down the street and I got to know him. Enjoyed our conversations. He left to visit Heaven too soon.

Gosh, Dickie, I wish I could have visited with you again. Had fun when we were kids around the Brook Ave. neighborhood. We drove by your house (old house??) just last week and thought about you when we were looking around the old neighborhood. Where does the time go? Peace go with you, Dickie.
My condolences to the family and friends. May your warm memories confort you in this time of loss.

My sincerest sympathy for the family. I thought so much of Dickie, I got to know him when he was living in California and his brother and his family lived down the street from me. We had gotten reaquainted by phone and had a lot of long conversations. I only wish I would have called him before he passed. He had really been on my mind. Rest in peace dear friend.
