Steven Whatley Obituary

MESQUITE - Steven Douglas Whatley - son, brother, husband, father, uncle, nephew and true friend. Steve passed away unexpectedly at his home Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. A private funeral service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Anderson-Clayton Chapel and he was laid to rest at Mesquite Cemetery. Steven Douglas Whatley was born Aug. 30, 1963, at St. David's Hospital in Austin. He was the son of Robert W. and Barbara E. Whatley and the fifth child of the six "Whatley Kids." Steve attended Connally High School, TSTC and the University of Texas at Dallas. He earned a bachelor of science degree in public administration from the UTD and his professional career was in graphic design, sales and marketing. Steve's passions were for music, people, projects and building things. His greatest joy in life was his family, friends and his beloved dogs, Snoopy, Sammy and Noodle. To know Steve was to understand this statement about him: "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - whew, what a ride!" Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, David (1998); father, Bob (2001); and recently by his beloved mother, Barbara (2006). His charm, laughter and love will be missed by his loving wife, Carissa; daughter, Kaley; sister, Sherry Heck and husband, George of Centrahoma, Okla.; sister, Denise Roberson and husband, Danny; brother, Scott Tabor and wife, Carol "Sissy" of Euless, Texas; sister, Diane Butler and husband, Jeff of Fort Worth; and his uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends. In lieu of memorials, condolences may be sent to The Family of Steven Whatley, 4113 Harlanwood Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76109, 817-207-9959. Steve was such a nice person. I was one of his customer's at CORT. He was such a happy person at all times. I am so sorry for you loss.

Steven was the younger brother that tagged along with David & Scott. But we still let him hang out (sometimes)! It seems our families stay intertwined through the years, and I know many, many, many of my memories of growing up are tied to all of the Whatleys-Tabors. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. God Bless all of you!

Memories of living on TSTC campus, so many years ago - running up and down Robins Loop - water balloon fights and just being able to be kids. Steven's smile will stay with everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
