Margaret Irene Peters Lutton Margaret Irene Peters Lutton (Peg) passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at age 99 and a half. She remarked that she was hoping for 100. Peg was born on August 13, 1924, in Yutan, Nebraska to Clara Wicht Peters and John Fredrick Peters. After graduating from Yutan High School, she attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and after graduating at age 19, she moved to Chicago to aid the war effort. Returning to Ashland in 1947, she met Claude D. (Dee) Lutton, fell in love and married in 1948. Peg's life centered around family, faith, and community. She and Dee raised three children, Susan, Richard, and David Lutton. In 1966, Sven Bjorn became part of their family through the AFS study abroad program. For over 60 years Peg shared her gift of music as the organist for the Congregational Church. She was an active member of P.E.O., the Ashland Historical Society, and the American Guild of Organists and many other local organizations. As her children were growing up, she was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and an avid fan of her boy's numerous sports. Peg & Dee's love of travel took their family to all four corners of the U.S. bundled in the back of a station wagon. Later she and Dee traveled extensively around the world, sometimes cruising and sometimes with a small suitcase and a Eurail pass. Peg's travel log showed they had traveled to all 50 states and all continents except Antarctica. Peg will be greatly missed by her loving children Susan Rodgers (Ray), Richard Lutton, David Lutton, and AFS son, Sven Bjorn (Gunilla), her grandchildren Emily, David and Maggie Lutton, Liz Flynn (Matt), Sara Wurst (Michael) and grandson-in-law Tony Bedient, great grandchildren Ainsley, Macy, Jessie Flynn and Ava Wurst. She was preceded in death by her husband Dee Lutton, daughter-in-law Sue Lutton and granddaughter Jessica Lutton Bedient, her parents John and Clara Peters and her brother and sister-in-law John and Joan Peters. A celebration of her extraordinary life will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Ashland Congregational Church, 1542 Boyd Street, Ashland, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ashland Area Foundation for programming at the Ashland-Greenwood Performing Arts Center, 1442 Silver Street, Ashland, NE 68003. Peg would love that the community will be able enjoy musical programs through your gifts. Visit
