Michael John Nethercutt, born Sept. 10, 1948, in Minneapolis to Orsian and Angela (Deliski) Nethercutt, passed away at home Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, joining his sister.
Michael worked at Ah-Gwah-Ching for 35 years as a supply clerk, which is where he met his wife, Betty Pels, and they were married in 1990. He will always be remembered for forming and serving on the Cass County Housing and Redevelopment Authority for 44 years. He formed this important government organization with friends.
Michael served on the Backus City Counsel for many years, as well as mayor of Backus and Cornfest Grand Marshall. He was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Michael is survived by his wife, Betty (Bennor) Nethercutt of Backus; stepson Jeff (Cristina) Pels of Olathe, KS; sister Mary Ellen (Don) Johnson of New Brighton; grandson Liam Pels; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Orsian Nethercutt; mother Angela McGinnis; stepfather Maxwell McGinnis; and sister Joan Kuledge.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hackensack, with a visitation the hour prior. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be at the Lemon Cemetery in Akeley at a later date.
