Shirley Ann Riegert, 92 of Waseca, Minn., died at her Colony Court home Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Shirley was born in Shakopee Oct. 23, 1931, to parents Alois and Ottilia (Deustch) Hennen. She attended St. Mark's Catholic School in Shakopee before her marriage to William P. Riegert at St. Mark's Catholic Church on June 16, 1951. She and her husband established and operated the Little Red Store in Eden Prairie for many years. After the sale of the store they went on to recognize the need for affordable housing and developed mobile home parks in Mankato and Waseca.
In their retirement Shirley and Bill summered in Hackensack and wintered in Florida. Shirley loved crafting and enjoyed china painting, embroidery, knitting, and sewing. She and her husband were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, William "Bill" Riegert of Waseca; five children, Mary (David Lobb) Hudson of Waseca, Monica (Charles) Priebe of Waseca, Steven (Janice) Riegert of Eagle Lake, Michael (Brenda) Riegert of Deadwood, S.D., and Madonna (Donald) Dobberstein of Waseca; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Marlin (Phyllis) Hennen of Shakopee and Judith (William) Turek of St. Paul; and three sisters-in-law, Judy Job of Winona, Diane Riegert of St. Bonifacius, and Bonita Riegert of Eden Prairie.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her parents-in-law, Wilbur and Elizabeth Riegert; brother, Kenneth Hennen; siblings-in-law, Stanley Riegert, Richard Riegert, Richard Job, Nancy Nielsen, Kenneth Riegert, and John Riegert; grandson Brian Dobberstein; sons-in-law, Dennis Eustice and Chester Hudson; and daughter-in-law, Jane Riegert.
A Funeral Mass was held June 5 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Glenn Frerichs officiating. A private family interment of Shirley's cremated remains will take place at St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee.
