Sandra "Sandy" Karen Jenkins, 74, of Warrensburg, passed away September 14, 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and beloved friend. Her spirit didn't come to an end with her death; those who knew and loved her will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest, just as she did.
Her father, Homer, and her mother, Betty (Johnson) Boswell, welcomed Sandy into this world on May 9, 1948, and she was the youngest member of the Boswell family from Corder, Missouri. If you aren't familiar with the Boswell's, well let me tell you there are a lot of them and they are the most loving, generous, and sincere people you could ever know, and Sandy was no exception.
Having seven older siblings (remember I said there were a lot of them), she was frequently tasked with being the babysitter to her nieces and nephews, often only being a few years older than some of them. But if you ask them, "Aunt Sandy" was always up for having fun and they all have amazing stories to tell.
After graduating from high school in Corder, Sandy worked in the garment industry, making friends all along the way. She always had this vivacious personality and always made everyone around her feel loved and welcomed.
It was January 1968, cruising the strip (Noland Road), if I remember correctly, where she met her future husband, Michael Jenkins. It was love at first sight for these two. As a matter of fact, after meeting Sandy that night, Michael told his friend, "I am going to marry that girl!" and that he did, just three short months later.
Over a 39-year marriage, Mike and Sandy did it all - they raced boats, rode motorcycles (she even had and rode her own), they owned and operated a successful prosthetic limb business, and together they raised two children, Chris and Robin.
Sandy was renowned for her abilities in the kitchen, there was no denying that. Whether it was making the best spicy tomato juice you ever had or her garden-fresh salsa, you knew it was something special, just like her.
Sadly, Michael passed in 2006 and it was in 2008 when she met Doug Weiss, who would become her companion for the next 14 years. He, too, shared a love for motorcycles, and they spent a lot of time riding around the scenic towns of Missouri and beyond with their friends.
She will be sorely missed and is survived by her sisters Anna Mapes, Nadine Mistler, Lois Luebrecht and her brother Homer "Bud" Boswell; her children and their spouses Chris and Jennifer Jenkins, Robin and Mark Becwar; her grandchildren Cody and Caley Jenkins, August and Jo Becwar; her three adopted great-grandchildren Jayden, Grayson and Kiely Beyer; and her companion Doug Weiss.
Those who welcomed her into the Lord's embrace are her parents, Homer and Betty Boswell, husband Michael Jenkins and her sisters Helen Dickey, Ruth Short and Ginger Miller.
Please join us in celebrating her life Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, Missouri. She will be reunited with Michael once again at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy asked that contributions be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation or
Disabled American Veterans.
