Duncan was a classmate from the time we attended Harrison Hill Grade School through South Side High School in Fort Wayne. We all remembered Duncan's evident talent in athletics, which unfortunately was cut short in grade school due to a heart murmur. During our years at South Side, we were occasionally in the same class, one of which was the world history class as sophomores. We both scored the highest in that class on the final exam, a sign that Duncan was to go on to greater things in academia: a Yale scholarship and law degree.
During our high school years, we often doubledated, resulting in several incidents, which neither of us would probably forget.
After graduation from South Side, we didn't see each other that often, as I chose to attend Duke, then went into the military at the end of the Korean war. However, I did hear about Duncan occasionally through the grapevine and did finally see him at our 25th anniversary high school reunion. He was a steadfast supporter of South Side High School throughout the years, establishing a scholarship fund for graduating students.
Duncan was certainly a special person that shall not be forgotten.
