ALAN WOHLSTETTER Obituary


Alan F. Wohlstetter  
Passed away from natural causes on November 16, 2017, at Foulkways, in Gwynedd, PA, one week shy of his 96th birthday. Alan was born on November 23, 1921 in New York City, the only child of Faye and Samuel Wohlstetter. He married Joyce Bauman, a red-head from Memphis, with a warm southern accent, in 1950 and they were married until her death, in 2005. They raised three children together, and the family resided in Chevy Chase, MD. Alan attended Harvard College, enlisted in the Navy, and graduated from Harvard Law School. He started his career with Pan American Airlines Office of the General Counsel, later joined the Federal Maritime Commission, and spent the majority of his career in the private sector at the law partnership, Denning & Wohlstetter. In 1962, Alan established the Household Goods Forwarder Association to assist in moving goods of military families. He served as General Counsel. Most valued by Alan, is the Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund, awarding scholarships to students pursuing careers in transportation and logistics. Alan is remembered by his loving children and grandchildren, Penny Wohlstetter, Ted, Ned and Alison Sonnenschein, Alan F. Wohlstetter, Jr., Cheryl, Chip and Barclay Wohlstetter, Ann (Wohlstetter) Tsangeos and Lee, Scott and Andrew Tsangeos.  A celebration of Alan's life occurred on Friday, November 24. His body was donated to the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund, c/o International Association of Movers, Harvard Law School, or a charity of the donor's choice.
