ALBERT FOX Obituary

FOX ALBERT K. FOX Al Fox, age 59, of Vienna, VA, died June 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He showed enormous strength and courage on his journey with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Eileen (Bates), his sons Albert (Blake), Ryan, Jack and daughter Katie. He is also survived by his parents Al and Barbara Comer Fox of North Aurora, IL, sisters Peggy (Keith), Mary, Kathy (Guy) brothers Jim (Joanne) and Tom. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, uncles and extended family. Al was born in Blue Island, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and raised on the Fox River in North Aurora, IL. He graduated from Marmion Military Academy, attended the Air Force Academy, and graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He received his MBA from the University of North Florida. With over 30 years of sales experience in the Federal arena, Al was a leader in developing federal IT and government connections. He began his career in the early 1980s, establishing himself as a true leader in providing advanced technology to the US government market. He had a special affinity for connecting the federal government with innovative start-up organizations. He excelled at establishing relationships with his customers, some of whom became lifelong best friends. Al was active in many industry and community organizations. He spent many years involved with Boy Scouts of America, as a young man himself and as a parent. He was always proud of his attainment of the Eagle Scout rank, and even more so when all three of his sons became Eagle Scouts. He spent many years as Scoutmaster of Troop 1978 at St. Marks in Vienna. Recently he was an active volunteer with the James Madison High School Crew Team, serving several years on the board, including one year as President. Most important to Al were the friendships he made through the years. His ability to maintain all of those friendships is legendary. He was generous, kind, intelligent, caring, and was like a brother to many. Al lived life to the fullest, often described as larger than life. He loved his family and impacted the lives of so many, making our world a brighter place. I spent my childhood years growing up in No. Aurora & what a great friend Al was. I have many fond memories of our child hood. Every time I go past the fox house it brings back memories. Al was a true friend & is dearly missed.

We all miss AL. Each of us same or different stories simply because you filled the world with love, consideration, professionalism, compassion, and most all entertainment. It's rare to meet with anyone from the old gang and not mention Al Fox.....the legend

I had the privilege of working with Al at 4 different companies: ADR, Oracle, Informix, and Forcepoint. I have never met anyone like Al. He had a spirit like none other. He lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed. Yes, he was crazy at times, wild, loud, funny, but he was also one of the kindest, smartest, and most caring people I have ever known.

Al had a way of immediately elevating the spirit of everyone he came in contact with. In all the years I have known him I never saw him in a bad mood. He was always smiling and doing his best to bring out the best in you. RIP buddy. I think the crowd at your funeral was a testimony to your good nature and concern for others. Your smiles will be missed

Eileen, Albert, Ryan, Jack, & Katie,
We send you our love and deepest sympathies and will always remember Al as the best neighbor, ever. Always smiling, funny, generous and kind......sharing great stories and proud accomplishments of your wonderful four kids as they grew up. Al of course never grew up and showed us all the way to inner happiness thru his spirit and love of life and family. Of course, having awesome speedboats and super fast sport cars in the yard didn't hurt, either! We loved hearing him summon the neighbors to yet another party by blowing his conch shell off the palm tree-laden deck, winter or summer, flip flops and Hawaiian shirt. We are all so lucky to have known Al and please take comfort in all the happy years you shared with him as husband, father and best friend. Love, Bob, Ann & Katie LaBelle

Dear Eileen and family: We are terribly saddened by your tragic loss. As your downstairs neighbors at Sea Colony, we loved the banter with Your beloved Al. From observing your beautiful family, we knew that Al and you were spectacular parents to your terrific children.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time in your lives. With our deepest sympathies.

Eileen and Family Deepest Condolences from the Murphy family. Keith Kevin and
myself were very close to Al since the 1970's . We will always remember his smile, love of life and family. We actually introduced him to my roommate from college Bill O'Brien and the rest is history. I'm sure we will all see him again.
Rest in peace Al

Please accept my sincere sympathies. May God's holy spirit or active force, equip you with the " power beyond what is normal " to go from one day to the next. ( 2 Corinthians 4 : 7 ) Remember : God can help his faithful servants to endure any and every problem they may face.

What a wonderful family and what a terrible loss. All the words about Big Al are true but, if you knew him, you realize how inadequate they are. Words just can't capture his aura. He truly was bigger than life. I believe that, if I make it to Heaven, St. Peter will be wearing a Hawaiian shirt and there be a beer tap attached to the Pearly Gates. That is, of course, assuming that Al hasn't taken over St. Peter's responsibilities. Heaven's gain is our loss. What great guy! It was such a pleasure to know him. Aloha Big Al.

Dear Eileen and family,
Do not know what happened to my entry I wrote yesterday, but I want you to know how sorry I was when I learned of Al's passing.
Having lost my husband a few months ago, I know how deep the hurt goes. You think you are never going to reach the top again. Just want you to know I will never forget Al coming into the Community Center with that great big smile on his face. So many times I would be walking down Park Street, and along Al would come driving his car with the top down. He would wave and say HI NANCY. I did not know him as well as you, but you and the children were one lucky family. I know how much you all will miss him. GOD GRANT YOU ALL THE WILL TO CARRY ON WITHOUT HIM ON YOUR LONG JOURNEY.

Eileen, So sorry for your loss!!! So thankful and grateful for the love and support you have provided to Al and Family. Thanks for sharing Al with all of us. I met Al when he was at Knowledge and was really impressed in dealing with a salesman with integrity and honesty as his hallmark. We quickly became Friends and that grew into LIFELONG FRIENDS!!! Al Fox/Bobby Lane/Lonnie Thompson were the Three Musketeers of the Information Technology world and loved just "hanging out" together. Al is in Heaven already making arrangements for Family and Friends to arrive! My Brother, to have known and loved you is one of the BLESSINGS I will cherish.

I am so sorry for your loss and so sorry to hear about Al. Al was so funny and made everyone around him feel good. I played golf with him at our Marmion Reunion last summer, and was able to spend time with him at the reunion. I'm so glad we were able to do that. God bless you Al.

June 27, 2016

Big Al was an inspiration to many and a friend to all. I was always surprised by his larger than life attitude. He will be missed by all (even his competition on the sales field).

It was a joy working with Al at KnowledgeWare. He truly was larger than life and always had a smile on his face. Sending much love & prayers to Eileen and the entire family. I'm sure Al has everyone in Heaven wearing a Hawaiian shirt by now and saying his trademark "YAAAAH YAAAAH!"

I think Steve Thomas captured it best when he said Al was a gift to us! Absolutely the best. I met Al at ADR in 1983 and he was a rock star. Had the pleasure of working with Al at KWI and McCabe. Always made lots of money and had the best of times!

We are shocked and saddened by the loss of Al and send our sincere sympathy to his family and close friends. We will always remember and remain in awe of the incomparable AL FOX. (Yes- "Bigger than life" fits Al.) Chuck and I had the GREAT pleasure of working with Al at ADR and Oracle. At first he was a Systems Engineer (SE), then sales. At ADR one national sales mtg, when there was a call for a participant from the audience to volunteer for the magician, the whole crowd chanted for "Al Fox, Al Fox" , who, of course made it a very entertaining event. Everyone was an Al Fox fan at ADR. Al was the best and brightest SE, plus the wildest, funniest, and most interesting person we will ever know. I still tell Al Fox stories to my grandchildren. (Halloween Party w/dry ice in the entrance pond/duck tape & wild women-i.e our 1st mtg of Eileen.); Spear gun holes in Jetta door; "Fox kills Bear" headline in Florida newspaper; Hawaiian shirts; wild rides to accounts, fantastic demos, etc, etc., It always seemed so amazing that he could be so effective at work, then, outside of work, continuously earn more advanced technical certifications, plus party harder than anyone we had ever known. Never have we met a more exuberant, brilliant, and unique character. We are truly grateful for having had the opportunity to know Al Fox... A never ending bright spot in the universe and our lives.

Al was our next door neighbor on Zelkova Ct. in Fairfax when we were in our twenties, what fun we had, I will never forget Gumby. I am very saddened by his passing. My thoughts go out to Eileen and the kids

Deepest sympathies to the Fox family.
Al, you are very loved and are very missed.
You enriched every life that you touched.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as he did, this sinful world as it is;
not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life;
And supremely happy with Him forever in the next,

Amen

When I started at ADR in 1986 I heard many stories about the legendary Al Fox. In 1988 Al and I ended up at KnowledgeWare together. The KW office was very close and we had a lot of fun - it was usually Al leading that fun! The infectious attitude and booming voice was always fun to be around.

Now more than ever, I am thankful I got to see Al at our KW reunion! While we may have been a little older, Al hadn't changed a bit! He was still the outgoing, life of the party!

I am still in shock.
Although I had not seen AL in years I still remember growing up together. The memories i hold onto & will always remember. He lived life to the fullest, always ready to have fun. I remember Boy Scouts we always had fun but learned alot. Once we were able to drive oh the stories !!We were pranksters at a young age a couple of the stories still fresh in my mind !!. Al & I most definitely kept our parents especially our dad's on their toes. Al demonstrated a strong leadership ability at a young age and I see it followed him through life.Al was a great friend and one that will be dearly missed. RIP my friend
