ALEXANDER STEWART MacNABB  "Sandy"  
Of Oakton, Virginia went to heaven surrounded by his family on November 25, 2016 at the age of 87. He was born in 1929 to the late Frank and Helen MacNabb in Bayshore, New York. Sandy graduated from Suffield Academy in 1946.Sandy served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War with the Naval Security Group. Sandy was an active member of his local VFW Post 8469 and served several years as Commander.Before entering the Navy, Sandy was a police detective in Suffolk County, New York, worked as a Journalist and as a geologist. Sandy graduated from Colgate University in 1956 and received a LLB from Washington & Lee Law School in 1959. Sandy devoted his life working for and with Native Americans and Pacific Islanders. He served in the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity under the leadership of Sargent Shriver, the Bureau of Indian Affairs under the leadership of Commissioner Louis Bruce, and as the first Director of the Department of Labor, Indian Employment and Training Programs. Sandy continued to serve indigenous populations in private practice notably as a member of the Reagan Presidential Transition Committee and as legal counsel to the 1983 Samoan Constitutional Convention.Sandy was an active member of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia for over 40 years. He served on the National Catholic Council of the Boy Scouts of America for over 25 years. He had a passion for history, languages, writing, music, and shared a wonderful sense of humor with all.He is survived by Kathleen Marie (Noonan) MacNabb, his wife of over 53 years and his daughters, Helen Marie MacNabb, Margaret (Margo) Ann MacNabb Nederlander and her husband, Jimmy Nederlander and Mary Alice MacNabb; and sons, Michael Patrick Mullen and his wife, Nichol Young, Ian Christopher MacNabb, Joshua Finley MacNabb and his wife, Katiana MacNabb and Jonathan William MacNabb, He was grandfather (Poppie) to Alex, Whitney, Sam, Mackenzie, Emma, Katalina, Helena, Logan, Cheyenne, Kathleen and James. A Wake and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Road, Vienna, VA. The Wake will be on Friday, December 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m. . Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his name to St. Mark Catholic Church, Vienna, VA.

Doug died very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sept 26, 2021. I sure miss him as I am sure you have missed Sandy.
