ALPHONS J. HACKL, 86, a former Washingtonian who founded Colortone Press and Acropolis Books Ltd in the Adams-Morgan nieghborhood, died of cancer on June 8, 2004 at is home in Sarasota, FL. Returning to civilian life after aserving in World War II, he married his wartime sweetheart, Muriel Forsterin February 1946. While in business in Washington, he served as Chairman ofthe Metropolitan School of Printing, an active member of the Small Business Administration, and an equally active member of the Holiday Neighborhood Settlement House. Following the arrival of their son John Raymond, Al, Muriel and John became members of the Friends Meeting of Washington. In 1958, Mr. Hackl launched Acropolis Books Ltd., a commercial publishinghouse. He sold both his printing and publishing companies in 1988, and moved with Muriel to Sarasota the following year. While both retired, Al and Muriel remained active members of the Sarasota Yacht Club, the Sun Coast Yacht Club and the Small Business Administration's Senior Core of Retired Executives (SCORE). Al is survived by his son John, who resides with his wife, Monica, in Indianapolis, IN.
