Amos Herbert Gardiner

Amos Herbert Gardiner of College Park, MD, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born December 4, 1936, to parents Gabriella Blanche Budd and George David Gardiner in Washington, DC. Amos graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD in 1954. He was a proud resident of Prince George's County, MD his entire life.



Amos was a computer specialist who spent 36 years with the U.S.D.A's Agricultural Research Service. He married Beverly Shaffer of Adelphi, MD in June 1983. He retired in 1992 and moved on to his most important job as stay-at-home Dad to his twin sons. In recent years, Amos enjoyed spending time as PopPop to his grandchildren, cheering on his beloved Washington Nationals and watching the musicals produced by his sons at Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA.



Amos is predeceased by his parents and his sister Marian Hall. He is survived by his wife; his sons Matthew Christian Gardiner of Washington DC and James David Gardiner (Erin) of Springfield, VA; his sister Gabriella Ethier of Providence, RI and brother George Gardiner (Shirley) of Stephens City, VA; and his grandchildren Christian John Gardiner and Gabriella Elizabeth Gardiner.



There will be a private funeral. If you wish to honor Amos' memory, please consider sending flowers to someone you love, donating to an organization of your choice, spending time with a loved one, or finding your own way to spread joy in the world.
