Dear Doris and Dr. Esther,
My condolence on your loss of Dr. Andrew Brimmer. Our relationship goes "way back" to my undergrad days when he was one of a few senior economists who hosed a conference at Pascal's and the AU center to convince more young African Americans to become Ph.D. economists. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him and having breakfast about 2 years ago when he moderated a panel and a Harvard MBA function. At breakfast, I tried to convince him to come to Bennett College, and he encouraged me to ask you, Dr. Esther instead, as he was immensely proud of your many accomplishments. We had a jocular relationship, teasing back and forth, and had several very long talks, once on a cross-country flight when we were seated together. He was such a pathbreaker for our people, a leader, a "first" and a shining light. He will be missed but never forgotten. I do hope that I will have the opportunity to attend his memorial service.
With love and respect,
Julianne Malveaux

Please accept my heartfelt condolences over Andy's passing. I am deeply saddened over his passing. He shared many warm stories about his wife, Doris, his daughter, Esther, and his beloved grandson. talked about Doris, Esther and his beloved grandson including their Alaskan salmon fishing. We worked together as members of the DC Financial Control Board. He was a brilliant man who led the organization with confidence. He grasped the most complex issues quickly and he always had the best interests of the city in mind. He was especially concerned about the District's most vulnerable citizens. I learned a lot from him for he was, unintentionally, a mentor whose vast experiences and knowledge were much appreciated. I only wish he had finished and published his autobiography because he had a fascinating life and made significant contributions throughout his life.

We of course used his info to bolters our credability within the companies we where employed.I was a marketing representative with ESSO (EXXON/MOBIL)during that time.

To Ms Doris, Dr. Esther and the Brimmer Family,
My deepest sympathy to you in the passing of Dr. Brimmer. Dr. Brimmer was a great friend of mine as well as a Louisiana native of (Tensas Parish). Dr. Brimmer was very smart, had a very sharp mind, such an amazing man. I am honored to have known him, honored that I had the opportunity to meet and discuss his days in Louisiana from childhood until Washington, DC. He truly leaves a legacy for all of us. I will miss him, but his memory will forever live on. May you find comfort in wonderful memories and times with Dr. Brimmer.

I was Dr. Brimmer's public information officer at the control board. He was also born in Louisiana, where I was born, and frequently, when discussing how to spin a topic or write a speech, we would end up talking about growing up in Louisiana. He was smart, fun to work for and will be missed. My condolences to Doris and his Daughter.
