Baeley Thackston Obituary

Baeley Aubrey Thackston (age 22) died suddenly in a motorcycle accident on October 12, 2024. Baeley was born in Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. He grew up in Gaithersburg, MD and made friends in all of the schools he attended, graduating from Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, MD (class of 2021), on an outdoor stage on the football field, during the pandemic. He went to Montgomery College and earned a welding certificate. He held several jobs in the welding and fire suppression industries. He had an impeccable work ethic. Baeley was involved in sports throughout his lifetime, focusing on karate as a child and lacrosse as a teen. He was creative, kind and a fiercely loyal friend. He loved animals. Baeley learned outdoor survival skills and was the best in class at fire-building. Baeley became passionate about motorcycles, riding and fixing them. He loved music from all genres, swam in the Potomac River, dived from quarries, fished across the DC area and camped outdoors with friends. Baeley leaves behind devastated friends from his schools' and riding groups, and a large extended family, including his step-grandfather, Jimmy Kampe, cousins, aunts and uncles. Baeley is survived by his mother, Kelly Bradley; father Dryer Thackston (Virginia Thackston); brother Turner Thackston. None of them will ever be the same in this lifetime after Baeley's death. Baeley was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Percy Lewis Dryer Thackston, Sr. (New Bern, NC) Legare Hobbs Thackston (New Bern, NC) and his maternal grandparents, John Collins Bradley, MD (Washington, DC) and Sharon Marie Bradley (Potomac, MD).
An interment will be held on Saturday October 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
A memorial page has been created in Baeley's honor at Tribute to Baeley Aubrey Thackston [goinghomecares.com] to share memories and condolences.

Dear Kelly/Dryer/Turner,

We are so, so sorry for your loss and we just hope that your pain will lessen with each passing day until it morphs into a warm feeling that makes you smile when you think of Baeley. We have fond memories of hockey tournaments with you guys and we remember how playful and funny Baeley was.

I'll (Ed) never forget during one tournament he kept singing a line from the song, "Dynamite", but he cleverly changed the lyrics to "I wanna celebrate and live my life... playing hockey". To this day I think of him and smile whenever I hear that song.

Baeley!! I´ll never forgot when I met you and how much you probably despised me for making you do burpees and footwork. But you grew to love the challenge. I am so proud of everything I am reading that you accomplished. I will never forget you and the impact you have left on my life and everyone you touched. Gone but not forgotten. Thank you for being my friend Baeley!

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Baeley, I grew up with his Mom, Kelly and her sisters. Baeley strongly resembled Kelly and I have a feeling his heart was equally as beautiful.
I´m so sorry for your devastating loss. Some people add that extra bright light to our lives and when they´re gone, you wonder how you´ll continue on without that light. One minute...one hour at a time. I know his spirit is alive all around you and always in your hearts.

I have been heartbroken all week thinking about your passing. Your life was quick - like you were. Lightning quick - moving through highs and lows and moving forward. So many milestones I am overjoyed you reached, people you affected even from a distance. Learning more about your fierce loyalty and deep caring this week was no surprise but made me happy to know. You will be missed and remembered Baeley.
