Just learned of Barbara's passing from one of her 1964 Austin High School classmates (Knoxville, TN) as we reminisced about our freshman year at Knoxville College where we all met. My first & lasting impression from honor classes with her was beautiful, brilliant Barbara was destined for greatness. Obviously my impressions were accurate. What a tremendous legacy! My condolences to her family & friends.

I live in her building and we're all quite shocked by her passing. I'm sorry we didn't get to know each other better as it seems we had a lot in common. Rest in peace.

Ms. Barbara, you will truly be missed. I am grateful for the short time which I had the opportunity to share with you. You was such an amazing woman. You never hesitated to share your knowledge, wisdom and most of all, your love. The memories you created at the Bonifant will never be forgotten.

Barbara, our meeting at Randolph Village was no accident. You became a really good friend. You always checked on me to make sure that I was okay while never complaining as to how you felt. I'm so sorry that I was not there to get that last call you made to me. I love you and I will miss you. Rest in Peace my friend.

My condolences to Barbara's family. I was a classmate of hers at Columbia J School, and I will share her story with the class. I would occasionally run into Barbara while covering Montgomery County in the late '80s and early '90s and was in awe of her energy in publishing her newspaper. Pat Reber

I have known Barbara since we both worked across the hall from each other at the County Council. I remember her as a strong black woman with a voice of amazing power and authenticity. She carried herself with an elegance and flair. I learned a lot from her. She knew Montgomery County well. She was well regarded particularly in the African American community. I saw Barbara briefly last year. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She will be missed.

Barbara, I miss you so. I love this picture of you. I have so much to tell you. Your compassion and gusto to help others will be remembered. You were a treasure trove of love for others. All that you have contributed to society was just a drop of the more you wanted to add. I admired that you never met a stranger. And now, I see you have done your work here and now must rest. Thank you so much for that which you have added to my life. I Love you Barbara.
