BARBARA LUTHER

Beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara Ann Luther, 83, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away on February 7, 2022. Barbara was born on December 30, 1938 to E. Dale Smith and Vera Smith. After Barbara graduated from Academy of the Holy Cross, she then studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Maryland and George Washington University. She spent her professional life as a comptroller for several tech companies. She was an avid reader, solver of crossword puzzles, and member of several bowling leagues. Her love for fast cars meant she always had a sports car in the garage. For most of her life, she owned cocker spaniels, many of whom were rescue dogs. When her children were young, she and the children had the opportunity to live overseas in several countries, including Liberia, Australia, and Japan. She is survived by her partner of 35 years, William Gillam; her brother Michael Smith; her children Lawrence "Chris" Luther, Michael Luther, and Laurie Luther; her grandchildren Brittaney Tassell, Christopher "Blake" Luther, Gemma Luther, Mark Luther, and Ryan Luther. Private service to be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at
