Bayard Catron Obituary

Emeritus Professor of Public Administration, at the George Washington University, died at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, January 13, 2025, two days after his 83rd birthday. During his more than 25 years at GW, he taught and wrote about policy analysis, public service ethics, environmental ethics, eco-philosophy, land use planning and community development, community and civil society, and organization theory.

Catron IV (Roxanne Jarrett) and Janel Catron Morland (Paul); brother John Markwood Catron (Mary Ellen); sister Jennifer Lee Catron; three grandchildren; his many friends, nieces and nephews; and decades of students who were lucky enough to learn from him and he from them. He is also survived by his first wife, the mother of his children, Beverly Elliott Catron.

Bayard was a friend and professor of mine at GWU when I was working on my PHD in the 1980s. He was chair of my doctoral committee and I valued his friendship, advice and deep knowledge of many subjects of which we had mutual interests. I will miss him greatly and wish his family members the very best with my memory of him in my mind.
