Beatriz De Winthuysen Coffin

Beloved widow of Laurence Edmondston Coffin Jr., mother of Thomas and Alisa, and sister to Teresa Winthuysen Alexander, passed away on December 19, 2022, at the age of 92. She is remembered with love by her children, niece and nephews, daughter-in-law, Jolynn, son-in-law, Oswaldo, six grandchildren, and her extended circle of family and friends.

Beatriz attended Furman, and Cornell Universities, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She was a registered landscape architect and a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects. She practiced her profession with distinction in New York and Washington, DC, with her husband and partner Laurence, in the firm Coffin & Coffin, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from her peers in 2017. Beatriz was invited to teach in Ecuador, Mexico, and Bolivia, and contributed to the development of her profession in those countries. She was the Director of the International Institute of Site Planning which advocates for the enhancement of cultural values of different peoples and countries by adapting modern site planning technology to local needs and helping site planners throughout the world.

Funeral service will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA, and the Montjuïc Cemetery, Barcelona, Spain at a future date.
