Maureen,

It is hard to express in words the sorrow that Gayla and I feel in your loss. Ben was the essence of a "good" man and the smartest person I've ever known. We will miss his wit and humor. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

I worked with Ben from 2004 to 2012. Many of us admired Ben's courage and determination in the face of his daily struggle. He contributed to the security of our nation throughout and I am proud to have served along side him. He was an inspiration and to me was a living example of Lk 9:23, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

Dear Maureen, we were sad to learn about Ben's passing. We know that you will miss him terribly but that your faith and family will give you solace. We would be there for the service if we could.

Love,

Maureen, Ben was a colleague of mine. He was a smart, and dignified gentleman in every sense of the word who made significant contributions
to this nation's security throughout his long career. He will be sorely missed.

I would like to offer you and your family two ancient Irish blessings:

For Ben:
You go home this night to your home of winter, to your home of autumn, of spring and of summer; you go home this night to your lasting home, to your eternal bed, to your eternal sleeping.
Sleep, oh sleep in the quiet of quietness,
Sleep, oh sleep in the way of guidance,
Sleep, oh sleep in the love of all loving.

For you and your family:
May Our Lady, who with a mother's love wipes away our tears and makes all manner of things well, intercede on behalf of those who are suffering the pain of loss. May God heal their grief, strengthen their faith and grant that their loved one rests in peace with Him for all eternity.

I can still see Butch climbing up into the avocado tree on Granny Pfeiler's front lawn, to retrieve a stuck football one Sunday afternoon in the early 1960s.

Maureen, the love and support that you gave him can never be forgotten.

My heart goes out to all my cousins at this time.
