BERNARD KARP Obituary


Bernard Dornin Karp (Age 90)  
Of Gaithersburg, Maryland, formerly of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.Bernard was born on February 8, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in the Army and reserves for seven years. He graduated from Earlham College with a degree in geology. He worked in the petroleum and natural gas industry, finishing his career with 30 years at Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He was a volunteer teacher in the Citizenship Preparedness Program at Montgomery College.He loved the outdoors, imparting this love to his children and grandchildren. He loved hiking, camping, gardening, and took up bowling later in life. He developed a great love of the Japanese culture while serving in the Army. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his new great-granddaughter. He was also a great animal lover, including his dog Heidi.Bernard is survived by his six children, Robin Luce and her husband Roger, Christopher Karp and his wife Susan, Michael Karp, Stephan Karp and his partner Mary Lou Plaugher, Timothy Karp, Jonathan Karp and his wife Jennifer. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Stuart Karp, Heather Calvert and husband Thomas, Cynthia Luce, Jeffrey Luce; and one great-grandchild, Logan Paige Calvert; his brother David Karp and his wife Peggy; several cousins; a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Karp and Grace Dornin Karp. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Maryland Crematory Services.
