BERNARD T. ROACH
The members of the DC Fire Fighters Association, Local 36 regret to announce the death of retired Brother BERNARD T. ROACH on October 13, 2017. Brother ROACH was appointed to the Department on December 17, 1990 and retired on May 13, 2017 as a Lieutenant at Engine 13. A viewing will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Spirit of Faith Christian Center, 2261 Oxon Run Drive, Temple Hills, MD. A viewing will take place at the same location on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 9 a.m. Funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. Interment on Monday, October 30, 2017, 11 a.m., at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD.

Praying for the Roach family and the passing of Bernard came at a shocking surprise to me. We had just talked inside Tropical Cafe and complimented each other how good we looked at staying in shape. I joined the Police Department in 1990 when he joined the Fire Department and joking with him that he retired before me.

Bernard Roach was a great Soldier! He was sharp in his uniform. He took pride in his duties and was an example to the younger soldiers. He believed in God and Country. Behold O Lord, we are in distress! Our hearts are turned within us, there is none to comfort us. Mourning and lamentation are heard among us. God bless his family, he will be missed.

Boogaloo was truly one in a million - positive attitude, big smile, big helping heart, always a supporter of anything great. I've known Bernard since our time at Ballou. My sincerest condolensces go out to the Roach family. Boogaloo will truly be missed especially by the class of '82!

I send my condolences to Roach family. I had the pleasure of knowing Bernard for over 40 years. I think I met him at WB Patterson in the first grade. We played sports together from early on through high school. Bernard was a great athlete, tennis, ping pong, paddle ball, baseball, football, basketball, boxing and marbles. I think he won a championship in marbles. Ah man, I will miss running into him and having that conversation about anything. He IS one of the greatest guys I will ever know. Love you Boogaloo!

A person never really dies unless you let him and it still feels like he is with us... I can hear his voice encouraging everyone to be on fire for the lord and that people will notice that fire by the way you walk. 1 John 4, the world will know Christians by out love . P.s. was so looking forward to praying with you in my five fold ministry. Nevertheless you made the whole world a better place we all shall miss you but remember what you taught us when you were here.... in your honor I am helping those in the greatest need and who enjoy my laughter and jokes. Bernard had the biggest most beautiful smile. Gone but never forgotten a Christian, firefighter boxing and all around athletics legend and I know you will be here leading me again and again to my next enlightened ministerial assignment. Go on and take your rest... I will see you when JESUS calls us in the sky.
