BETH ABRAMOWITZ Obituary

ABRAMOWITZ BETH SUSAN ABRAMOWITZ Beth Susan Abramowitz was born in Washington, D.C., on November 25,1965 and passed away on May 12, 2020 in Los Angeles, CA after a short illness. Susie is survived by her parents Rabbi A. Nathan and Barbara Abramowitz of Washington, DC, her brothers David (Allegra) West Orange, NJ, and Daniel (Wendi) Potomac, MD, and uncles, aunts, four nephews, one niece and many unusually dedicated and devoted friends. She was born with impaired vision, which she struggled to overcome all her life. She doggedly sought ways to overcome that obstacle as she would every other impediment that life threw at her. She never backed away from a challenge whether academic or physical. She gradu-ated as an engineer with high honors from the George Washington School of Engineering and as a biomedical engineer from the University of Southern California, which enabled her to become an actual rocket scientist. She excelled at her work for Raytheon, a major defense contractor, where she was the lead analyst to develop equipment which has saved many lives. Susie was the super jock of her family, unafraid to push herself. She turned down an invitation to train for the 1975 Olympics in gymnastics, but was still good enough to captain the 1980s GW gym team. She once took a bicycle trip from San Francisco to San Diego and reported, "It's not all downhill." A graduate of Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, she always tried to follow Judaism's central mandate to "REPAIR THE WORLD.' Whenever she saw a need she tried to fill it. Her acts of kindness benefitted friends, students and family. A USC professor once wrote that Susie had the most analytical brain he had known. Though her brain was sharpest in science, she also enjoyed and often immersed herself in the humanities. She loved and participated in art, music and literature. She produced some lovely work in those areas. Always aesthetically oriented, she became a dedicated and successful gardener to enhance her beautiful California home. She turned her backyard into a magnificent botanical garden. Services Private; virtual shiva May 13 -19. Services Private; virtual shiva May 13 -19.

What a bright star Susie was! For the short period of time that I knew her she embraced the mission of helping heal those who needed it the most. She was a huge part of helping End Results Health & Wellness ( a restorative fitness business for cancer survivors) and our non profit Picture of Health, which also focuses on physically restoring the health , fitness and wellness of cancer survivors. We had a presentation and fundraiser on Zoom May 12th. Susie helped us put the presentation together and lent her incredible intelligence to helping make that presentation a success. I know she watched from heaven and was well pleased at how well it went. RIP Susie, you are a wonderful soul! We will and do miss you! Curtis Mann

To Rabbi, Babs, and family,

I am sick at the heart to hear this news.

Hamakom y'sachem etchem botch sh'avele tzion v'Yerushalayim.
Our two families go back nearly 60 years, when Rabbi A. officiated at my Bat MItzvah as our pulpit rabbi in my home town of Denver. Susie was not yet born but obviously was a magnificent daughter from a magnificent family, with a life cut tragically way too short.
How does one console something this tragic and unconsolable. I can only send you endless love, hugs, and prayers to God to send you strength.

Vicki

I am so very shocked and sorry to hear about Susie's passing. I had the privilege to have worked with her at Raytheon for many years, her office was just 4 doors away from mine. Susie was an inspiration and a light to me and when she would have a bad day at work or with her health I would be there for her. She will never be forgotten. For her family may the Lord comfort you and keep you strong during this period of loss and grief. -Pat Nance
