BRADLEY MACOMBER Obituary

MACOMBER BRADLEY ARTHUR MACOMBER Of Great Falls, VA and Brewster, MA unexpectedly passed away in peace at his Virginia home on Friday, September 21, 2018. Brad was born in Augusta, ME on May 10, 1949, to Arthur and Johanne (House) Macomber. He grew up in Winthrop, ME where he attended Winthrop Public Schools excelling in track and basketball. Brad helped to bring the Winthrop High School Ramblers to victory in the 1965 Maine State Basketball Championship and later graduated in 1967. He went on to attend Springfield College and Syracuse University, obtaining degrees in both Physical Education and Architecture. While at Springfield College he continued to excel on the varsity basketball team. Brad had an impressive career of over 30 years of service in the United States Army as an Engineer Officer in the Army Corp of Engineers. Enlisting in June of 1971, Brad retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel - most recently serving as a Chief in the Army Installations Division at the National Guard Bureau Headquarters. Brad is a registered architect in Virginia, Massachusetts and New Jersey, serving in both the public and private sectors. His career accomplishments were numerous. Brad held a position for many years as the Deputy Director at the Architect of the Capitol. During that time he managed various aspects of the Capitol Visitor Center construction. He also provided professional, technical, and contract support for a design and construction program focused on the renovation, historical preservation, and sustainment of buildings and support systems for the Legislative Branch, Judicial Branch and Library of Congress. Brad also served as a Senior Executive in Arlington County, VA responsible for managing, overseeing and directing the Arlington County Capital Improvement Program. Brad enjoyed spending time coaching youth sports, picking blueberries in Maine, walking on the Brewster Flats, and riding bikes on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Brad married the love of his life, Barbara V. Pollard, on August 18, 1973 and they spent 45 unforgettable years together. Their happiness was completed by the birth of two sons, Cam and Tyson, who love him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara V. (Pollard) Macomber; his son, Cam and his wife Emily, of Medford, MA; his son Tyson and his partner Katie Washam, of Dallas, TX; his mother, Johanne E. (House) Macomber of Winthrop, ME; his sister, Melody R. Jenkins of Winthrop, ME; his mother-in-law Constance W. (Macomber) Pollard; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Never a day passed without his family knowing how much he loved them. A private, military funeral with full honors will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brewster Ladies' Library in Brewster, MA or Kennebec Valley Humane Society in Augusta, ME.

So very sorry to hear of this family loss. Having gone to high school with Brad his contribution to the basketball team and the championship win in 1965 was immeasurable. Always thought highly of him through the years even though our paths did not cross again. My sincere sympathy to his entire family on their loss of Brad.
